We picked up a reputation on ship for the little games they had, and we almost won the library games, but while we had the brainteasers down, someone else was far more skilled with the daily quizzes.
On the other hand, Monica always won the Name That Tune and almost(?) always the Showstorm Trivia (pictures, music, and movies), and we almost always took the Team Trivia as well. We now have numerous Holland America branded pins, cards, bags, coasters, and mugs that we're not completely sure what to do with.

Is the dancer spinning clockwise or counter-clockwise?
If she appears to be turning clockwise, you're supposedly more right-brained in your thinking, and left-brained if she spins counter-clockwise.
Does she change directions?
I find this fascinating, but have no idea how it works.

Christian (aka danger_nelson) taught me how to solve a Rubik's Cube last year. My record for solving one is about 1 minute and 30 seconds.
For a first try, I'm happy with how this turned out. I already have some improvements for version 2.0.

On a visit to my sister's office, I met Lily in October 2009. While it was love at first sight, it took a month or so before Lily could make the move by car, plane, and elevator from Columbus to my apartment in Washington, D.C.
We are best buddies, with daily games of Chase and Hide-and-Seek. She's proficient at batting practice and an expert at Dad's Blanket Game. While The Mother Kitty is the staring champ, Lily is a close second with her unprecedented dilated eye tricks. Currently studying the phases of the sun and moon, she spends her days researching the changing lights, shadows, and sounds throughout our apartment.
She loves jigsaw puzzles and brainteasers, movies, music, and hosting company and social events. Though she enjoys our quiet life, she chronicles the endless outdoor activities of the bustling city from the vantage points of her window seats. Like Mark Twain, she plans to have her radical findings published 100 years after her death.
Though she hates computers and wishes I'd throw mine out the window, she helps with sorting my markers and scanning my artwork. But she's really all about the breaks, often sabotaging my blog posts and stealing my sketchbooks to get her way. Her idols include Martha Stewart, Marilyn Monroe, Rosie Perez, and Amelia Earhart.

Spot The Difference Game -
When I was young, I’ll get my pencil ready for The Sunday Times. There was this “Spot The Difference” game featured on the last section of the newspaper and it was fun; I could circle all the differences within a minute. Look at the picture above, can you find the difference between the leaves on the left and right row? If you can’t, I suggest you visit a local optician before Christmas to check your eyesight.

The Arrow Book of Brain Teasers
Written by Martin Gardner
Illustrated by William Hogarth
Scholastic Book Service, 1971
64 Pp.
Softcover
Originally printed in 1959, this volume includes pages of charming brainteasers that your kid will love.
I love doing puzzles - jigsaw, brainteasers, crossword, anagrams, you name it.
One of my recent (within the last year) discoveries has been what are often called "Paintdoku" puzzles, or nonograms, or riddlers. Each month in a puzzle magazine to which I subscribe, there are two pages of these puzzles. They're a little like sudoku, but more so just interesting logic puzzles.
You can probably read the instructions, but basically, each number on the top and left of the grid represent a continuous string of numbers in that row or column that should be filled in. There is at least one open square between each string. From there, you figure out which squares should be colored in.
The puzzles are highly addictive, so I've searched for computer programs that will also allow me to play.
Instructions
Interleave pages of notebooks to "lock" together.

Floral Wreath
quilted & pieced by Rhoda Wollmann
This quilt is my Heiratsdecken, Marriage Quilt. Finally making a quilt of my own, turned out to be a bit more challenging than I anticipated! Taking ideas from several other quilts that I liked and arranging them to fit onto one quilt was an eyestrain and a brainteaser at times.
The rich, bold colours I picked, combined with the floral wreath and leaf border, resulted in a quilt that is still one of my favourites.

Bought a couple of new puzzles today when I visited Barnes & Noble (fave place). The Star Burst is the intriguing one. I may not see it like this for a while once I take it apart! And of course I had to get the 30th anniversary wooden Rubik's Cube. =P

Smart Way is a highly addictive strategic turn-based puzzle game, guaranteed to attract brainteaser enthusiasts.
The challenge is straightforward and simple. The goal of the game is to outmaneuver and outsmart the super-clever character that is trying to escape the game board by placing obstacles around it. As the game progresses, this simple task gets harder due to the growing difficulty of new levels that are characterized by the increased presence of ‘bonuses’ – fields that enable the escaping character to evade the obstacles easier and faster.
Smart Way is richly themed with 6 different characters: a rabbit, a hedgehog, a sea crab, a fish, a cobra snake and a chameleon. Apart from the characters, there are 3 different playing environments available for players to enjoy: the desert, the meadow and the ocean. The pioneer version offers 60 mind-boggling levels. The subsequent editions will expand the number of environments, levels and characters, according to the developers.
