Before there was Rubik's cube, there was this unamed set of blocks from the Five and Dime (the predecessor of the Dollar Store...). The object is to arrange the blocks so that each of the four faces of the 'tower' has only one instance of each color... I used to be able to do it in seconds; maybe someday I'll tackle it again!

If one green drumstick should accidentally fall,

There'll be howmany green drumsticks hanging on the wall?

(Remember if one drumstick falls, its shadow too will be gone)

( adapted from a popular Nursery Rhyme, "Ten Green Bottles hanging on a wall" to enable children to count down from 10 to 1 ) )

Get back to school with this "hangman" game greeting card. A game most of us used to play on the blackboard at school when we were little.

This card is on a golf question.

We stayed in this house, against a dramatic backdrop of mountains. Some slept in a large den area, a few slept outside under the stars, though we made sure to have several layers of warm Berber blankets. After dinner we sat outside and preoccupied ourselves with brainteasers... a universal pastime.

Made entirely with Inkscape.

Took a break between comic pages and Zodiac drawings to ink this sketch.

Brainteaser: Is Terry blushing here because I've posed him with the girls, or because I've posed him with the girls wearing James May's dorky striped jumper?

sitting here waiting on a friend to pop up.... what else was I to do but make a few more of these

This little brain teaser lives in our car. I used it in a different way (as a model) to fill the time while waiting to pick up the kids from school yesterday.

Dig magazine intrigues the archaeological adventurer in your life.

Indiana Jones is cool, but wait until the kids you love find out about real archaeology in DIG magazine! Even professional archaeologists love DIG. Mark Hilverda, President of Into Archaeology, says, “I only wish that I had DIG in my childhood days.”

Published in partnership with Archaeology magazine, DIG is the perfect archaeology and exploration magazine for kids ages 9 to 14. DIG will take them from a lost city in ancient Iran to the Maya of Mexico, from the Underground Railroad to Petra, Jordan. DIG readers will meet ancient people and see how they lived, while learning about all the latest archaeological techniques, scientific experiments, and news from the field!

Explore an ancient shipwreck or read what it feels like to discover an emperor’s tomb in China. DIG is packed with mummies, pyramids, dinosaurs, and more! Each issue of DIG is filled with fascinating articles, revealing photos, and colorful graphics that inspire kids' imaginations. Plus, DIG magazine is fun. Chock-full of hands-on puzzles, brainteasers, games, and projects to do at home, DIG gets kids involved. Kids can decode an ancient language, make a 3000-year-old recipe, or send in their own art. DIG itself is an amazing discovery, and the perfect archaeology magazine for kids with a desire to learn!

A second puzzle for today... and one you can solve even if you forgot everything you never learned in calc or physics.

George killed his wife with a knife, leaving no trace and no witnesses.

He returns home. An hour later the police call to tell him that his wife has been murdered and asked him to come at crime scene straight away.

As soon as he arrives, he is arrested.

How did the police know he did it?

Here we solved the "Four T" Puzzle at this restaurant called Jauni's in Rosh Pina, Israel. It was really difficult but fun and our food almost got cold because we were to distracted trying to finish the puzzle than eat our meal. But the meal was also terrific.

I thought this set of puzzles had 2 pretty good challenges in it, but my 9 y/o solved them quickly. Now it is your turn. Are you smarter than a 4th grader?

This is a tricky puzzle - both rings must be removed. This illustration shows how to solve it. In the third image the wood disk is passed through the slot and wrapped around the beam so that the string going in exactly follows the string going out. This allows the ring to pass over the "doubled" string so that it can be removed. (the other ring is removed the same way). Be careful - a few wrong moves and you'll end up with a big tangled mess!

(Various names of this puzzle include the Mini Rope Bridge, Wit's End, T-bar, and an older topologically-similar version was called the Mystery Key).👽💀👽

Dave Bennett has a collectors item and a puzzling brainteaser to pass the time

Robert Abbott's infamously hard logic maze puzzle, a self-referential flowchart. Can you solve it?

my section is addicted to these puzzles. you'd always see them solving or you'd always see them watching the person who's solving. haha. i think the boys from my class were the ones who spread the rubik's cube craze in school. my classmate, rap can solve a rubik's cube for less than a minute and 30 seconds and his gf, maine can solve a brainstrings, dunno for how short though. i think it's harder than the rubik's cube. too bad ob banned these puzzles.
