Hair braiding, plaits being sealed. From series of photos documenting women.

Part of the joy of my garlic harvest each year, after they have been cleaned, is the braiding. It is a beautiful and very effective way to store the garlic which hung in a cool place out of sun light can be used typically for up to a year.

On Jon Stewart Samantha Bee and Rob Riggle point out how amazing it can be that there are any "Undecided Voters" at this point. This foto may explain it.

The girl was very excited to get her whole head braided. After a quick toe dip in the water at Princess Cays, we went straight to the braid lady to get her hair done. Next step - get some vitamin D!

It is called a braided river because the water channels shift and overlap each other.

Three strands of sterling chain {some oxidized black, some shiny } braided together and finished with faceted nuggets of Pyrite. Gifted to a dear friend for her berfday.

Rug measures about 21" diameter and probably took me the equivalent of one and a half to two full days to make.

Shangilia Mtoto Wa Africa - Rejoice Child of Africa

This past weekend I had the pleasure of visiting Shangilia and meeting some of the children who live there. Located just outside of Nairobi in the sprawling Kangemi slum, Shangilia was founded in 1994 by the late Kenyan actress Anne Wanjugu as an organization dedicated to educating and empowering street children, that they might become part of a community and as a result have a chance at a better life.

The central message of Shangilia remains that street children who have been empowered can excel and contribute meaningfully to society.

BRAIDS | Halifax Pop Explosion 2013

This week's theme was Stranded. One of the defintions for Strand was :

"one of a number of fibers, threads, or yarns that are plaited or twisted together to form a rope, cord, or the like"

So I just braided one strand of hair.

I (kind of) broke my kit lens and I could only manual focus...but I am starting to feel more like a photographer though :)

Now that I look at this photo I realize I am in such an awkward pose....
