Love this bracket--did it once hold a lamp, or what?--and I ALWAYS love green glazed brick.

1975 Schwinn Heavy-Duti.

The pivot point on the old bike seat won't tighten down enough to keep from twisting back & forth on the top of the seat post. The bike shop said the seat isn't the right size for the post. To fix the problem I made an aluminum bracket and attached it to the frame.

A 1/4 20 threaded rod runs through the bracket and through a hole in the bottom of the seat frame. After some adjusting I'll add 2 more nuts above the bracket and below the seat frame.

The seat doesn't move any more.

Hard to see, but it worked! I now had two very flat pieces of putty on the bracket with inverses of the keyboard's screwholes sticking up on each. Now I knew where the holes should be.

Bracket Fungi

Assignment 4-Biographer Frog

This is a self portrait minus my person. It contains some of the things that represent me most clearly: Strong, bright colors, and crisp light. Black. Matt textures. Modern sensibilities. Textiles (the quilt). Hippos (just a tiny taste of the collection.) Fans-I need cool, hate heat and humidity. Whimsey--a woman of mature age with stuffed animals and a purple wall. Wrought iron and hand made things.

I very much like the drama of the darkest one. Hate the really bright one.

The term classically was reserved for polypores, however molecular studies have revealed some odd relationships. The beefsteak fungus, a well known bracket fungus, is actually a member of the agarics. Other examples of bracket fungi include the sulphur shelf, birch bracket, dryad's saddle, artist's conk, and turkey tail. Some species of bracket fungi are cultivated for human consumption or medicinal use. The name Polypores is often used for a group that includes many of the hard or leathery fungi, which often lack a stem, growing straight out of wood.

Their hardness means they are very resilient and can live for quite a long time, with many species even developing beautiful multi-coloured circles of colour that are actually annual growth rings.

The group includes many different shapes and forms that are common in the tropical forests, including the hard 'cup fungi' and the 'shell', 'plate' and 'bracket' fungus commonly found growing off logs and still standing dead trees.

Built in 1912, this Moorish Revival-style building was designed by Huehl and Schmidt to serve as the Medinah Temple to house the Medinah Shriners, containing a 4,200-seat auditorium. The building is clad in brown and buff brick with irregular coloration, mimicking historic stone and mud brick buildings in the Middle East and North Arica, with terra cotta trim in brown, tan, and white, including decorative carved relief panels, Egyptian-style columns, a bracketed cornice, gothic arched trim panels over the first floor and third floor windows, Moorish stained glass windows on the corner towers and third floor, moorish arched transoms above the entrances at the base of the corner towers and central tower with decorative screens and decorative trim surrounds, a stone base around the bottom of the building, balconies over the entrance doors with iron railings and terra cotta piers at the ends, an arcing facade around the perimeter of the building, which is interrupted by three rectilinear towers, bracketed cornices at the towers, a decorative four-story terra cotta surround at the central bay of the tower along Wabash Avenue, low-slope roofs enclosed by parapets, and onion domes over the corner towers at the northeast and southeast corners of the building. Inside, the building once featured a three-story auditorium with two balcony levels, which were arranged in an arc around a central thrust stage, below a decorative coffered ceiling with a large central Byzantine-style dome and several smaller domes, Arabic-style light fixtures and chandeliers, a geometric proscenium arch and trim on the walls, a decorative painted relief above the stage, Egyptian-style columns, an Austin Organ Company pipe organ, and a large banquet hall on the ground floor. The auditorium was regarded as having some of the best acoustics in Chicago, and was the site of live and studio recordings, as well as live performances, the annual Shriners Circus, and concerts during its time. Much of the trim work on the walls and ceiling of the former auditorium space has been retained within the heavily modified interior of the building. The building housed a thrust stage-style theater run by the Shriners until 2000, when it was gutted and converted into a large retail store for Bloomingdale's Home and Furniture, removing most of the historic interior and restoring the exterior. The building was designated a Chicago Landmark in 2001. The building housed the Bloomingdale's store until 2020, when it closed due to financial difficulties faced by its parent company, Macy’s. The building is presently vacant, and has recently been proposed to be a temporary location for a casino.
