The red telephone box, a telephone kiosk for a public telephone designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, was a familiar sight on the streets of the United Kingdom, Malta, Bermuda and Gibraltar. Despite a reduction in their numbers in recent years, the traditional British red telephone box can still be seen in many places throughout the UK, and in current or former British colonies around the world. The color red was chosen to make them easy to spot.

Red box often found in rural locations in the UK. Consists of red metal and perspex or glass windows. Inside is an object mounted on the back wall with black plastic shaped like a banana with a metal wire leading from it and a some buttons with numbers on it.

Not sure of it's intended use, probably dates back to the last millenium. Possibly an abandoned urinal, or maybe a historical communication device.

*Ostraciidae is a family of squared, bony fish belonging to the order Tetraodontiformes, closely related to the pufferfishes and filefishes. Fish in the family are known variously as boxfishes, cofferfishes, cowfishes and trunkfishes.

Ostraciidae occupy the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific oceans, generally at middle latitudes, although the common or buffalo trunkfish (Lactophrys trigonus) which lives mainly in Florida waters may be found as far north as Cape Cod. The cowfish variety Lactophrys quadricornis can grow to be 50 cm or less in size, but are generally smaller at higher latitudes.

They come in a variety of different colors, and are notable for the hexagonal or "honeycomb" patterns in their skin. They swim in a rowing manner. The hexagonal plate-like scales of these fish are fused together into a solid, triangular, box-like carapace, from which the fins, tail, eyes and mouth protrude. Because of these heavy armoured scales, Ostraciidae are limited to slow movements, but few other fish are able to eat the adults. Ostraciidae of the Genus Lactophrys also secrete poisons from their skin into the surrounding water, further protecting them from predation.[1] Although the adults are in general quite square in shape, young Ostraciidae are more rounded. The young often also exhibit brighter colors.

Up for critique - I got a suggestion last time to add kumquats maybe for some extra color. Well I didn't need the extra orange color but I am in love with kumquats now!

eh, for effort.

Boxing day explained

A box of heavyish brown cardboard, perhaps thirty centimetres (or one foot) wide, ten centimetres (or four inches) high and fifteen centimetres (or six inches) from front to back. The lid is open, and we can see a box of biscuits taking up two thirds of the space. The biscuits are labelled "Arnott's Entertainers crackers, crispy oat with a hint of honey" and there are pictures of a round of cheese with a white rind and a wedge cut out of it, dried apricots and small square crackers with a very slight wave. In the rest of the space a stack of cards is held together with a rubber band. The top card asks us in a friendly, informal typeface "If animals could speak, which one would be the rudest?"

I bought these metal pencil boxes about 25 years ago in Brownsville Texas at a discount store on Palm Blvd. Charming mis-interpretation into English.

Top Box: "We're happy on every respect on opening. I was surprised thatthe dox was full of love."

Bottom Box: "Why do you walk so onesided, my child? It is far more becming to go straightforward."

I think this type of inlay is calleed Damascus work, but suspect it might be North African. I like it anyway, and picked it up for peanuts at a charity shop.

Scanned from a box of kodachrome slides taken by my late grandfather, James Paul Theis. I've uploaded all these files with the intent of releasing them into the public domain, in hopes that some of these images may live on in other forms of media.

These are Box Elders, they are all over the place at my parents house. I wanted to try out the 50mm 1.4 on them. Think it turned out ok. :)

Mooncakes, individually wrapped in decorative boxes.

I created a set of cards with interchangeable messages and a complimentary gift box. Images from LL174 Sweet & Simple Patterns set were stamped with inks from the Fall Chalk Ink Queue and the centre of the framed area was cut out. Frame was adhered to Kraft card on 3 sides, the fourth left unstuck so that messages can be inserted. A variety of messages from LL662 Small Greetings were stamped in corresponding colours and trimmed so that a message can be slid into the frame. Recipient can select a relevant message and slide it into the frame as they need it. Papers used on card and box are from Basic Grey Archaic collection. See my photo stream for more pictures of the individual cards.

I made a box spring cover for our guest room at the cabin.
