OurDailyChallenge "The Mail"
We don't have door to door delivery, so most folks in Stayner have a lock box where we can pick up our mail 24/7. This lobby is relatively new and all new boxes were installed during recent renovations. You can see the change in the floor where the lobby was extended.

As written on the box art – TEDEROS In the future of the 20th century, mankind has been civilized and living a rich life. But since the fall of gigantic meteorites, a cataclysm has been started that has included the appearance of monsters and invasions by aliens from other planets. Mankind is now facing things never experienced before. The forces of the Earth’s united nations have been attempting to organize a new squadron, beyond the Army, Navy and Air Force, to protect against these alien attacks from other planets and to prepare for the development of space. This new squadron, made up of specialized robots, is named Terrestrial Defence Robot Squadron, “TEDEROS”.
Well, it is already 21st century now but can you just relax and ignore what’s going on around us now??
This one is TEDEROS-03 Fighter Robot by Marusan. 6.5 inches tall and it is marked as 1/150 scale and the pilot Ken Ishida inside the robot behind the clear dome on the chest. Nice touch!
However, again same as the TEDEROS 01 I already have, for the size of the figure (6.5” tall) the box itself is far too big! (6”x9.5”x5”) and I just wonder was it necessary? Maybe it was so, so that they could ask for higher price... That’s marketing for you, haha!!

The diagram from Town Green signal box before the removal of the sidings.
This is one of the signal box diagrams I have digitially recreated from a mixture of photos taken on official visits, office copies of diagrams and general research. Whilst every effort has been taken to ensure accuracy, the gradient diagrams where some numbers have been hard to discern may be incorrect.
Mr Box Turtle and I were picking blackberries in the front yard. Hadn't seen the rascal in a while, it has been here for the 32 yrs that I bave lived here and he will likely out live me as they get to be 150 or so. Always enjoy seeing it. Check it's video out. The Muscadinevines seem to provide a challenge for him. .
This ceramic box is by Italian maker Bitossi. It is hand-signed, but the numbers are covered by felt, so only Italy can be read. It retains its original Rosenthal-Netter import sticker.
This is a "blind ballot box" that was used by Hose Co. No. 3 for silent votes taken of the membership. Black and white marbles were kept in the open end. Dropping a white marble into the hole signified a supporting vote, while a black one signified a “no” vote.
Because in some cases a single black ball could determine a vote, having been voted down by a single dissenting vote came to be known as bring "blackballed." In many instances (including this specimen), the black marbles were replaced with black cubes so that a dirty white marble could not have been mistaken for a black one.

Every day since I left the house with my Ex, I have written my daughter a letter without fail. I wanted her to know that I thought about her every day- even if I didn't get to see or talk to her.
This was 11 years in the making and encompasses so much history. Almost 4,000 pages in 20 journals, and then I made a box to hold them all. There were pages from when she was a little girl, drawings she gave me, guitar picks from a performance where I dedicated a song to her- pages from camping and traveling all around the world.
Needless to say she was amazed when I gave them to her... this completed my 58th Lifetime dream.
These were a Christmas present many years ago from my sister. Tiny little glass boxes that fit inside each other.
Today's photograph was an exercise in minimal depth of field using my 50mm f/1.4 lens with the extension tube fitted. I wanted to keep the aperture wide open - so controlling the light was the key. The ISO was set at 50 with the flash on lowest power, and even then I needed to put a sheet of yellow tissue over the flash (single head) to reduce light output but also to add a warmer cast over the image. The other option would have been my ND filter

Ulceby Junction signal box. was situated near Immingham in North East Lincolnshire.
The structure was built by the Great Grimsby and Sheffield Junction Railway (Which then amalgamated with the Great Central Railway) later.
Despite an attempt to save the box, It has now been demolished, making way for the Lincolnshire signalling upgrade project.
I am lead to believe that it was a Great Central Railway type 5 box, and was opened in 1910.
It featured a 30 lever frame and was later fitted with a more modern IFS Panel in the late 1980's.
What a pity that it couldnt have been saved for a heritage line.
Full marks to Network Rail for not offering the structure to preservationists. Take a bow you corporate clowns.
There is something very human and personal with signalboxes, - maybe its because theyre (mostly!) permanently manned and are from another era?

new DC Queena! I took more photos of this box opening but the memory card ate a bunch of them (goodbye memory card). Also I was losing light fast and too excited to use a flash so I'm sorry for how rushed these are...
I decided my Queena will be called Willow. She is my first bjd of any kind and I am beyond thrilled with her quality. And I think its crazy that even with all those extra joints she can stand up on her own!
Doesn't he look happy at his new home ;-)
It's a huge Houghton Ensign Klito No.00 falling plate boxcamera from 1905, made of wood with embossed leatherette and very beautiful framed viewfinders. Two doors in the back to get out the used plates while the rest is still ready for action.
I have 4 framed glass plates with it and it's a brilliant system, load, take picture, slide the knob on top, listen to the falling plate and the next plate is ready.
There's room for 12 plates!
The 4 lenses can be changed by the 'smiley' to focus on 4 different distances: 3ft, 6ft, 9ft or infinitive.
Info says it's from 1905, but the logo with the English Marine Flag is from 1911...
Here's some info from the internet:
Houghton's Klito No. 00 falling plate magazine camera is made for a set of glass plate holders for a maximum frame size 11×7.5 cm. It has a conventional falling plate mechanism like drafted in the article about magazine cameras. As refinement it has a two part back door. The lower quarter of the back door can be opened separately to remove exposed plates.
On top it has a shifter to release the last exposed plate to fall onto the stack of used plates. The camera name "Klito" is imprinted on the box camera's carrying grip. On one side of the box is a metal frame that bears the camera's full name "Klito No. 00".
In the front are the lens, the shutter, and two quite big and nicely framed brilliant viewfinders, one on a side for horizontal and one on top for vertical image subject spotting. Below the finder ocular on the side is the lever to set the shutter from time to instant mode or vice versa. Below that control is the shutter release lever. In instant mode it opens the shutter when moved down or when moved back up. In time mode it opens the shutter when moved to the actual opposite position (up or down, depending on if its down or up).
The whole camera is constructed of wood, covered with leatherette. On the front it bears Houghton's typical little round Ensign bagde with the imprinting "Made by Houghtons Ltd London - British made".
I am in the process of rebranding my business and my Etsy shop and this is another step in the direction of creating an overall cohesive look-- an identity, if you will. And you will.
Another post box, from the same period as the one outside the former Station Road Post Office. This one is on the corner of where The Approach meets London Road. Appropriately enough, a postman can be seen riding in the direction of Station Road, and is passing under the railway bridge. He is probably heading for the Royal Mail depot in Love Lane.
Wet plate aluminiumtype. Day 1. Box Brownie….15 second exposure. A bit late in the day….and rushed plate prep….I will get better
this box hardly contains anything: just a pamphlet with a registration number. the label proudly declares "Designed by Apple in California." LOL
This is the box that the Disabled Guy built for my friends who play various historical sea captains at the renaissance faire.
Now, part of the discussion with me on what it had to look like (and I showed him photos of the previous box- which looked like a little coffin), he asked: "What if I made it look like a treasure chest?"
Well, here we are. This treasure chest is very light (I can lift it easily and today, I'm in flareup mode), and as solid as a brick. The handles are garage door lift handles (we discussed strength/comfort with someone who builds garage doors), the hinges aren't as decorative as he wanted (those were too big to fit on the box). The latch was pure luck (we spotted it as we were walking away from the hinge section at Home Depot). All the hardware is from The Home Depot and not a craft store, so it is solid and as well as decorative.
