Israeli soldiers advance near the Israeli-Gaza border on January 3, 2009, waiting to deploy into the Gaza Strip. Israeli tanks rolled into Gaza late Saturday and troops clashed with Hamas fighters in a step-up to an eight-day offensive that has killed hundreds of Palestinians and caused widespread destruction. The Israeli army said "large numbers" of troops had moved into Gaza and the government called up thousands of reservists to take part in the ground offensive to end rocket attacks by Hamas and its militant allies. We had a grandly spooky time at Borders bookstore's 2010 Halloween Spooktacular at Kips Bay (32nd Street and 2nd Avenue, Manhattan)! Kids donned spectacular costumes and made Halloween treat bags with us, listened to hilarious Halloween tales, and paraded in costume around the store. Special thanks to Coreen Mann and Cale Hand for accommodations!

This is taken right past the border, on the French side. I have no idea what the name of that mountain is in the background, and Google Maps isn't really helping me. I do know that there were a lot of people hiking around all these mountains, and I wish I had some more time here since the Ossau Valley is truly gorgeous.
Technical notes: I honestly thought this photo was unworkable because of all the intense haze, but it goes to show that sometimes you should just open the file up and play around with it and see what increasing the contrast can do. Turns out it can do a lot!
