On 4 February, Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao inaugurated the first Integrated Border Post (IBP) at Batugade, Bobonaro District. President Ramos-Horta, Minister of Finance Pires, Minister for Tourism and Industry Alves, the Indonesian Ambassador to Timor-Leste, and UNMIT SRSG Haq and UN Police Commissioner Carrilho attended, amongst others. The facility supports the legitimate cross border movement of people and goods for tourism, commercial and community links. The IBP consists of several border control agencies, including immigration, customs, quarantine, border police, agriculture, foreign affairs and transport. The fence between the U.S. & Mexico, which is largely made from the old decks of aircraft carriers @ this section,
& a lighthouse---El Faro---which is on the Mexican side of the border. The road circles around the Bullring-by-the-Sea. The obelisk in the background, by the tree, was dedicated by President Richard M. Nixon, to celebrate the establishment of "Border Field State Park." The dark fence is made from the decks of old aircraft carrier decks & parts of U.S. Navy battleships, etc.

This is day 1, trip along the Border Track - Dog Fence.
This must be one of the best sand tracks to be found in Victoria/South Australia. It follows the border from near Pinnaroo right down to near the Melbourne - Adelaide hwy.
This track has very large sand hills to get over. Most of these hills have tracks to get around them if you are not able to get over them. Some of these hills are so extreme there's no way anyone will get over them, so this track can very easily be classed as a 'Difficult' track.
Very Important. Check with the SA National Parks and Reserves for information on when the track is closed, and what direction you need to go in.
The track is about 107km. Allow a full day to make this trip. For a more enjoyable weekend, take your time and camp anywhere along the track. Stop in or camp at Red Bluff - scenic red sandstone hill.
(This is where we stopped). Dress warm though as it gets hot in the day, freezing at night.
Make sure you pack all your recovery gear, and travel in a group with other 4wd's. (We had to recover 2 vehicles).
Check the depths of the mud holes. Some for us were over 1 meter deep. Watch out for the holes towards the end, they are really deep!
Momentum is your friend on the sand dunes. We used 15psi tyre pressures. (Try the sand dunes 3x, if you fail, take the chicken path)
We ended up getting lost around the supposed turnoff to red bluff, that according to the maps was "well signposted".
We ended up with broken eggs and bottles.
This is mostly a sandy track with dunes and provides you with a remote location for testing self and equipment without travelling deeper into the outback.
The environment is typical Victorian desert – Mallee country. Expect some scratching from Mallee scrub particularly in the Wyperfeld section and some parts of the Northern Border Track may be overgrown. Soft sand is to be found on the tracks as well as corrugations and hard gravel.
The border track is steeped in history largely due to the dispute which arose from the original survey completed between 1847 and 1850. The result is that the border is actually sighted some 3kms too far West. A fascinating account of this can be obtained from John Deckert at Westprint Heritage Maps if you manage to visit whilst in Nhill.
There is an abundance of wildlife to enjoy whilst undertaking this trip, so watch out for Emu and Kangaroo. Aboriginal rock holes can be found close to the junction with South Bore Track.
We were lucky to reach the top speed of 40 kms/hr.

SOUTH BORDER is a Filipino band formed in 1993 who gained recognition in the music scene in the mid-90's.
My beautiful girl. I just can't believe someone would abandon her at a shelter because she "barked and escaped". We were lucky to have her - someone else has wanted her, but we got to her just in time. And in the entire time that I've had her, she's only escaped three times (always coming back), and barked two times.
This is an image taken on the Taken on the N1/A1 dual carriageway between Dundalk and Newry, right on the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic.
I intended to focus on the change in the style of hard shoulder between North and South - dashed yellow line in the Republic, continuous white line in the North.
No customs post - I hope it stays this way and Northern Ireland's Remain Vote is respected!
Twister Quilt is done and I must say it went together really well. Nice technique. Now it's deciding borders. For sure some of the green polka dot but maybe it needs one of the prints that's in the pinwheel as final border. Have to sleep on it.
We extended an existing sandstone wall a few years ago.

ITV Border's Sandy McCracken arrived at the cottage with cameraman Paul yesterday to film a short piece for the ITV programme "Border Life". The sun shone brightly and the Cruck Cottage looked fantastic following the recent repairs carried out to the thatched roof and having been freshly lime washed by our army of community volunteers.
Once again local residents came along to help us make this another "special" occasion, becoming the audience for the day. Interviews were given by Michael, Willie and Bill Lawson providing an insight into the Cruck Cottages past, present and future - they were excellent.
Our thanks to all those who once again gave their time to help us - it is, as always, greatly appreciated!

As of January 30, 2010, the company operated 511 Borders superstores in the world, including 508 in the U.S. and three in Puerto Rico.
On February 16, 2011, Borders applied for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and began liquidating 226 of its stores in the United States. Despite an offer from the private-equity firm Najafi Companies, Borders was not able to find a buyer before its July 17 bidding deadline, and therefore began liquidating its remaining 399 retail outlets on July 22, with the last remaining stores closing their doors on Sunday, September 18, 2011.[5] The Chapter 11 case is ultimately being converted to Chapter 7

There were almost more cameras than Harry Potter fans at the Borders here in Madison, Wisconsin last night, part of the mania that swept the country in anticipation of the latest book going on sale at 12:01 a.m. The trouble is, no matter how many photos are shot in straight photojournalistic mode, they all tend to look like kids dressing up for a Halloween party. Thought I'd try something a little more expressionistic -- especially since, with my low ISO and slow lens, most of my shots were blurry to begin with. Very, some of them.

Borders always look their best end-on. You can't see the gaps.
This year's lack of water coupled with the very poor soil here has kept many plants smaller than usual and a lot of bare soil in between.
It looks good like this though doesn't it.
Couldn't easily be more different to my borders at home that really are over-full from any angle. I assume it's the richer soil.
Took part in the 2nd cross border run from Gretna to Carlisle, it was a very hot one indeed . Thanks to Rob Westgarth for asking me to run for the Carlisle Audi team and also Julie Tiffen who made up our 3 man/woman team.
A great effort from everyone today..
