This shopping center in Dearborn, Michigan was built by the Kmart Corporation to house the variety of brands they had in the early 1990s. Few if any of these "Kmart Corp. shopping centers" were built outside of Detroit or Chicago. This particular shopping center was built to look slightly more upscale than the others, maybe because it was built five miles from the first Kmart store, less than 20 miles from Kmart's Headquarters at the time, and literally across the street from Ford's Headquarters complex.
This shopping center was originally opened with Builders Square, Pace, Super Kmart Center, Office Max, Sports Authority, Service Merchandise (the only place not owned by Kmart when it opened), and Borders Books & Music. In the 1990s Kmart sold most pace stores to Sam's Club (including this one), split off Builders Square (which later liquidated), then sold Office Max, Sports Authority, and Borders (which also has liquidated).
After Builders Square liquidated a Home Depot opened in its place. Super Kmart closed in 2003 and later became a Walmart. Sam's Club also closed then became Garden Ridge (since rebranded "at home"). The Borders store sits vacant as of early 2015. The Service Merchandise store is now Value City Furniture. Office Max and Sports Authority still remain in the shopping center.
It is neat to take into consideration that the whole shopping center was built by one retail company and it actually feels much more expansive in person rather that just seeing it through pictures. It is also important to note that in the more than 20 years this shopping center has been built not one retail store has modified its exterior in any notable way besides Walmart bricking in Super Kmart's cafe windows and auto center. I guess this shopping center was built in a fairly timeless design.

YR61RVE was a Scania N230UD Omnidekka H41/22D new as Centrewest SN36064 in October 2011. It is one of a pair on loan to Borders Buses, and is seen in Galashiels.
SN55HFD is on loan to Borders Buses at Galashiels, a new trading name for West Coast Motors, with the legal lettering suitably ammended. It is a Volvo B7TL / Wright Gemini new as H45/29F First Edinburgh 32676 in September 2005. It will return to Firstbus for further service.

This wooden contraption stops sheep from escaping their feild via the river..or "burn" as small freshwater streams are called here.

The border between Mexico and US. These are park service staff with automatic weapons. Now I take groups of high school students to the border annually to look at the issues there first hand. Coronado National Monument.
In 1938 Czechoslovakia mobilized against the German threats of war, but hat to give in to the Munich Agreement and withdraw from the border fortifications, even if the army was fully capable to stand against the Wehrmacht. After this not only Germany, but also Poland and Hungary ripped pieces of land from the country, and there were also extensive fights with insurgents, which cost lives of many Czechoslovak soldiers and gendarmes. Today it´s a tradition to reenact how the situation could be, when we would have defended ourselfs. It´s a fact that Hitler was affraid of the Czechoslovak military, which at that time had better tanks, more heavy guns, and a very effective fortification system. Of course we win in the reenactments :-)

I was trying to export my Tatra 603 car "home" to the UK. However, it wasn't that simple. We were held in "no mans land" between the two countries for over five hours. I had all the correct paperwork, and had, indeed, owned the car for almost two years at the time. The Czech's were nervous about letting their heritage escape, and eventually we were turned back. I made the crossing successfully (driving the car, this time), about two months later, having, in the interim, obtained a letter from the Director of the National Technical Museum in Prague stating that my car was not a "National Treasure", and I should be allowed to pass.
The car is a V8, aircooled, rear engined, six seat aerodynamic super-saloon, made in limited numbers for (mainly) Government bodies and Party bigwigs. It was built in 1964.

I know I posted this 'After Matisse' that I finished recently, but then I had an idea to edge it with this lovely fabric braid that I bought on a visit to San Lorenzo market in Florence. It was very tricky to apply but I'm very pleased with the result.
Cottage garden border brimful of flowers. I loved the higgledypiggledy froth of all the different shapes and textures and the dark linear shapesof the stems and shadows to the right. I put a detail of this on earlier but found the whole drawing last night!
A little over 100 pieces to paste, 44 different artists from 10 countries...will be pasted during the next 2 weeks in Sao Paulo : street art without borders in action !
