Did you know Winston Churchill was a painter? Part of the booty from the online auction when Liz won the trunk of vinyl albums (see BlackBerry shot 63) was an old cache of postcards. One of them was this black and white of Winston Churchill painting in Câmara de Lobos, Madeira. It was 1950, the middle of his painting heyday. He is known to have said, "When I get to heaven I mean to spend a considerable portion of my first million years in painting, and so get to the bottom of the subject."

After a little research, I learned that Madeira is a Portuguese archipelago in the north Atlantic Ocean. Câmara de Lobos (Portuguese meaning "chamber of the wolves") is a city, a parish, and a municipality in the west-central southside part of Madeira. Câmara de Lobos is named after the area where sea wolves (lobos-marinhos) are found. They are the monk seals, two of which are also seen in its coat of arms.

"what's another word for pirate treasure?...why that would be booty......" though this probably isn't what the beastie boys had in mind

The most popular shoes are the high heel booties studded with gems, gold, and anything sparkling in-between.

You certainly wonder how they can perform dance and stage stunts with these booties heels. Women look so attractive donning high heel booties. They get few extra inches in height and look stunning from head to toe.

I made these oh-so-cute baby booties for a friend's new baby. Blogged with pattern link here: bakercourt.blogspot.com/2012/01/booties-for-baby-agnew.html

I made this set of baby booties for my colleague, Meg, who is expecting a boy in August.

My copycat for today is from the always inspiring DenisenFamily . The only problem I had was deciding whether to copy on of her gorgeous face shots, her chucks or her great butt! I went with the butt, as you can see.

Knit for an old friend who just had twin boys!

These did turn out pretty cute, I must say, though I was nervous at first. I omitted the ribbon/icord tie and made a shorter cuff because I was afraid of running out of yarn.

The organic cotton is actually quite nice, it feels pretty soft (the blue is softer than the green), it held up to a few froggings, etc.

I would definitely knit these again, I just wish there was no seaming!

My grandma just gave me the book they are sitting on, it's a Mother Goose book from 1940ish where 8 or 9 children's illustrators each got their own section to illustrate... some good stuff in there!

Tammy made a pair of Baby booties for a friend of her sister who is having a baby soon. She specifically wanted a pair of fish booties (a design tammy has done before). To keep it unique and fresh Tammy decided to do it with a varigated yarn.
