Who would guess that this beauty would still be around at change of the season. I’m happy it was. I like to give a name to my photos. It’s a way for me to associate easier with my work. For me “October Bold” works fine just for me. I hope that Gratitude and Kindness are always defined in my photo stream.
Female African leopard (Panthera pardus pardus) in a tree near sunset. Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, Kenya, Africa. Conservation status: Vulnerable.
We spent our last afternoon in Lewa looking for two young sibling leopards known to frequent the area. There was all kinds of clues, including alarm calls from the monkeys, but we couldn't see any leopards. Then suddenly one walked out of the marsh into the grass and within minutes was up in a tree not too far from our vehicle. It was the female, the more bold of the two, and she found a place in the tree where the setting sun turned everything a golden color. it was perfect.

The cultural and social life of Bernalda flows in its historical center where the architecture and the places of greatest interest of the city are concentrated.
The ancient village in fact extends from the Aragonese castle, which is also home to the Pinacoteca, the mother church and Piazza San Bernardino, up to Piazza Plebiscito, along Corso Umberto I, the core of the life of the Bernese. Most probably the castle was built by the Normans in the eleventh century, later restored by the Aragonese, during the period of their domination, which they have expanded and fortified.
The manor is characterized by a thin and square tower, certainly older than the other round bastions, while the façade overlooking the mother church is the result of a subsequent reconstruction. Walking along Corso Umberto I, between the stately buildings, right in front of Palazzo Fischetti, adjacent Piazza Plebiscito, you can admire a historic 19th century mansion, Palazzo Margherita owned by the Italian-American director Francis Ford Coppola, who bought and transformed the structure in a 5 Star Resort. Furnished with different styles: classic Italian, Moroccan and Baroque, the structure has eight rooms, each of which is dedicated to a famous character of the Coppola family.
David the squirrel is always trying to stir up drama - "I'm choking, I'm choking - oh god help!" he cries. The other squirrels know better and ignore him - but one day, will he be lying?

Hibiscus shrubs in my Gold Coast garden are prolific but beset by numerous insect pests. It can be difficult to get flowers not spoiled by these conditions. With some minor edits this one made it through.
This button is pretty large at 1½" wide. It dates from the 1900s and it's made of pierced brass and celluloid. The thimble in the background is French and made of silver with a thin band of brass around it. Both the thimble and the china are from the 1910s. Even the single fabric flower is over 100 years old.
Come to think of it, I haven't heard anyone say 'Bold as brass' for a long time, but it's a description my mother used to use. It means 'shameless or audacious'. I'm not sure this button deserves the description, but it just popped into my head. By the way, does anyone else struggle with subject lines? I could just say 'Yes, it's yet another button. So?', but I'll keep trying. :)

I joined a night photowalk in downtown San Jose. After dark we took photos at the water fountain at Plaza de César Chávez. After the fountains stopped we placed these chairs on the wet ground to get these reflections.
I took this shot with a 56 year old Canon 50mm f/0.95 vintage lens at f/0.95, which creates this nice bokeh of the tree leaves in the back. The depth of field is very short at f/0.95. This lens is also called Dream Lens because it creates a soft dreamy look. The HDR processing makes the image a bit more crisp.
I processed a balanced and a photographic HDR photo from a RAW exposure, merged them, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves to pop the scene.

I am unsure of what this butterfly is. Given a very bad example in one of my handbooks, I am guessing this is an Ismenius Longwing, native to Central and South America. Taken at the Tucson Botanical Gardens Butterfly Exhibit 2011-2012.
If any one is certain of what this butterfly is, please let me know.
I had been shooting birds in the water when I stood up from the reef... I wasn't quite prepared for what was about to happen. Birds started flying in not expecting to see a stranger on their reef. When they saw me, they would maneuver away and land on a smaller reef adjacent to where I was standing, but some of the 'bolder ones', just decided to land on the opposite side from me and keep a watchful eye.
I forgot to add that this is a Whimbrel...thank you all for your visits and wonderful, generous comments.
That little white spire at right is British Sovereign soil on the Kona Coast, marking the remains of Captain James Cook, wiser than most imperialists, and the model for Star Trek’s Captain Kirk. James most certainly did not obey the Prime Directive, which—together with a streak of good and bad luck—reduced him to charred bones and chewed meat.
Happy Water Wednesday!
Myself , Nigel and Gav were stood side by side at this location.
When a group of 1Z10 photographers get together for a railway shoot one of the challenges we all rise to is to come up with a different interpretation of the same scene.
This location is near Thorpe Jnc, the 37 hauled RHTT train fitted perfectly into the top of the S bends as it approached the level crossing which we were all stood behind. The foliage was rich with autumn colours lifting the shot on an otherwise dull day. The shot pretty much chose itself so how would we all come up with an original interpretation.
It took me a while but seeing Nigel's excellent colour interpretation i decided to go B&W with a heavy crop and emphasising the dirt on the leading loco. I embraced the grain and actually ramped it up to 11 to bring out the industrial feel. The shot was finished off with a subtle vignette and a complementary white border.
This is the 3J51 seasonal rail head treatment train which runs from York to Brough via Scarborough and Hull with 37099 leading 37254.
Over to you Gav.

Description of the District
The MacNab-Charles Heritage Conservation District is a one
block area bounded by MacNab Street South, Hurst Place,
Charles Street and Bold Street in the City of Hamilton. The
district consists of seven properties. These properties include
two multi-unit residences, a church and manse, two residential
properties and offices.
Cultural Heritage Value of the District
According to a plaque, the cultural heritage value of the district lies in the fact that:
The downtown block of MacNab Street South, Hurst Place, Charles Street and Bold Street contains a unique collection of stone buildings primarily dating from the 1850s.
While stone architecture was relatively rare in Ontario, Hamilton’s Mountain offered a ready supply of limestone. The local resource was used to great advantage in the hands of the newly-arrived Scottish stonemasons, establishing pre-Confederation Hamilton as a city renowned for its wealth of handsome stone
architecture.
With the MacNab Street Presbyterian Church as the focal point, the Victorian stone and brick streetscape of MacNab-Charles evoke a genuine sense of history in the heart of this city.
Designation of the District
The designation of the MacNab Charles Heritage Conservation District was initiated by the City Hamilton.
The Study and Plan were conducted and written between 1986 and 1988 by the Local Planning Branch, Planning and Development Department and the Hamilton-Wentworth Region. It was carried out in consultation with a local District Steering Committee made up of owners from the area.
The MacNab-Charles Heritage Conservation District is protected by By-law 90-144 which was passed on May 9, 1990 by the City of Hamilton.
