Subject
The subject is the an in-progress game of King's Court.
It was shot for entry into Macro Monday's "Member's Choice : Games or Game Pieces" challenge.
Lens
SMC Pentax-DA L 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 AL WR. It's the kit wide-angle zoom. It's on a pair of stacked teleconverters in order to achieve 1:1 macro: a Vivitar 2x and a Sigma 1.4x AF. Both carry the aperture information back to the body.
Because of the stacked teleconverters, the focal-length data is lost. The EXIF entry for focal-length is based on the options set on the camera and does not reflect the adjusted focal-length of the lens. The actual focal length was 154mm.
The camera was mounted on a mini-tripod that doubles as a pistol-grip mount. I used an infrared remote to trigger the shutter.
Lighting
Two Pentax AF540FGZ strobes are used.
One is to the left on a tripod and connected using one of my DIY cable extenders. It is bare and acting as the optical master.
The optical slave is close to the right side of the subject on a small hotshoe stand and has a generic snap-on diffuser.
An image of the lighting setup is in the first comment below.

I forgot that yesterday was International Tabletop Day. I wish it wre advertised better, as even frequenting boardgamegeek.com wasn't enough to know it was yesterday. But I ended up playing three games of Spirits of the Forest yesterday. And I played Takenoko, Sagrada, and Evolution today.

David Linley, the nephew of Queen Elizabeth II, is a classical furniture designer and maker. My design here is inspired by his work and is dedicated to him.
During World War II, the Waddington's company had an esteemed role to play, that of supplying Allied British POW's with a escape kits fashioned inside of a classic Monopoly board game sets.
My writing table is a one off design piece with representations of English cottage houses that are part of the Monopoly game logo. The one on the left is a cigar humidor. The other on the right houses a mini bar for one, and has a lighted display shelf for a collection of miniature Monopoly game tokens from the 1930s and 40s. Instead of drawers, the tabletop folds down revealing a world map with soft LED lights indicating historic locations of POW camps. The main writing surface has secret compartments housing a list of items (detailed on my drawing) recalling the secret items embedded inside the Monopoly game board by Waddington's craftsmen (who were honored publicly in 2007) for prisoners to use as escape tools. Lastly, a gallery of compartments hold notebook papers and assorted real money, as was used in the board game.
Design, concepts, text and drawing are copyright 2014 by David Lo.
Shooting using lightbox. Lighting source led lights. Minimal crop, just convert to 16:9 for widescreen. Miniature painted myself. Banshee from Terror of the mists faction

Just a little board game pimp. The game is Roll for the Galaxy, and it has plastic dice cups for dozens of dice. Well ... that's neat and all, but the cups make a horrible amount of noise, particularly in the evening while the kids are sleeping.
Not any more! I found this template for felt inlays on Boardgamegeek, and couldn't resist pimping the cups.
