A house in Christchurch badly damaged by the numerous earthquakes.
New Zealand is known as the shaky isles.
This abandoned building looks like an old store to me. At first I thought it might be a gas station, but I see no evidence of an island for gas pumps and no garage for car repair. It is built like a bunker. I can’t imagine what kind of store it would be in this rural area. It is not even on a main country road.
What is your guess?
I was adventurous today and took a drive through parts of rural Indiana that I haven't explored before. I found this interesting old building along the way. Anyone want to guess what it used to be? It seems a little big to have been a house. Google wasn't any help. Either way, it appears that it's been abandoned for at least a decade.

This old storefront has seen better days! I'm not sure what this place used to be but it appears to have been abandoned for at least 15+ years according to photos on Google Maps. Most notably this building is missing both its roof, floor and various parts of the wall. At some point more recently was it boarded up and painted with what appears to be a forest scene.
This building is located in the town of English. English is no stranger to struggles. According to Wikipedia, this was a thriving town during much of the early 1900's. Economic growth slowed after several major floods devastated the town. Most of the residents would end up relocating to higher ground and a lot of the businesses closed. The town council even decided to relocate the town from it's original settlement. The original town and residences would later be torn down and the grounds were converted into part of a golf course. Some of the original streets (albeit, empty) still exist today.

In 1998 Sandcliffe Road, Erith in Kent became the scene of "London's worst ever sewage spill" when thousands of gallons of chemical sewage overflowed into the street, 10 houses and into the River Thames. People in some houses had to get out immediately and were not allowed back into their houses ever again.
I cannot find this house now so it might have been knocked down. The road is still being flooded by sewage and the latest time was in 2016.
I don't remember where I snapped this scene during a recent road trip, but it was probably somewhere in North Carolina. It seemed like a fit for Truck Thursday.

At first I thought this might be a barn, but I didn’t notice any large barn door opening. I can’t help but think that it would be difficult to lead pigs and goats up the steps and into the barn. It could take up most of the day, so I ruled out barn.
It looks like it could have been a house because there are several windows and doors. However, there looks to be a loft and a door in this side for lifting up straw or grain for storage. That wouldn’t be needed in a house.
Of course, it could just be a very large storage shed. But here again you couldn’t drive equipment up the steps. So that seems silly. Therefore, it is another mystery.
I do like the colorful salmon colored coverings for the windows though. HWW!
“Honey, do you remember that house we boarded up two years ago? Well, I think I left the light on.”
“What do you mean, Priscilla? What makes you think that?”
“Well, Raymond, I just got an electric bill for that address for $951.73.”
“Wait a minute, didn’t you have the power turned off when we left?”
“No, Raymond, but it is going to be turned off NOW!”
Don’t you just love it when you leave for a trip and think you left on a light or the coffee pot or an iron? Well, these folks did. Can you spot the light? I looked on several other views I have of this house. It is definitely a light and not a reflection of any sort.
I think this is a house that has a wheelchair ramp added on. But, it could be some kind of rural store. It is way out in the country with nothing else around. R-Max is a flat board insulation that I think is just showing through where the siding came off. There would be no use for an insulation shop around here.
Road trip find.....an abandoned old home in a small town. These places always seem haunted by past memories....
There are so many questions I have about the world. The universe, not so much. The things we keep simple sometimes become complicated and vice versa.

A large apartment complex near Barstow, CA is closed and partially dismantled. There are a number of other abandoned buildings nearby, although there are plenty of new businesses and activity in other areas of Barstow.
Perhaps the decline of nearby mining led to this section of town to contain more abandonments. There are over 12,700 mines near Barstow but over 11,400 are closed. Gold, silver, borax, lead and many other minerals have been mined in the area. In any case, someone started to remove the tile roofs of these buildings and then gave up and left the tiles on site. When I see buildings like this, I always wonder what happened.
Happy Window Wednesday!
don't mind me . . .
just being silly.
