Block Party | May 16,2026

Touring the unoccupied upper floors of Whitney Block. This part of the building is now closed, but I was lucky enough to get a visit during a recent maintenance inspection. Built after World War I to house the overflow of civil servants and as a symbol of strength during the Great Depression, this part of the building has one of the few operational hand-cranked elevators in Toronto.

This is bock #7 of the Thread Head quilt along.

IAIS 7081 erases the intended scene which would have included a nice grain elevator.

Got the pattern from Sew, Mama, Sew. And as is my habit, I didn't completely read the directions before I started, so the cross pieces are all the same size. However, I don't think I could have made them any wider, because my fabric scraps were pretty skimpy.

I ended up dismantling this block and am in the middle of making them into potholders.

This set of blocks is about as old as I am and gets pulled out every time there are kids in the house. My usual approach with them was to build the tallest tower I could with them - I must have a picture of that around here somewhere.

More recently, Parker have gone more Taj Mahal and less Burj Dubai. This was one of his own creations.

The body pieces for the Janda sweater were blocked over the weekend, and this photo of the sleeves is a demonstration of why knitting is blocked before assembly... The pinned piece is darker because it's wet.

The racing stripes down the sleeves will be in bright pink!

1 block is opposite, the others are extras...just kept going and going.

An old barn made from concrete blocks. Very well maintained.

A bit annoying but from the UAE Dubai, non of the groups on the Flickr site are accessible. So if you want to post your newly taken Police Ferrari, you are unable to post it in the group Ferrari or Police Cars. Months ago I filled out the feedback form but until todays date, still no access.

Small art project for class, 60 something wooden blocks arranged and painted to look like a mario block falling apart. Needs a few touch-ups here and there but its mostly done and im pretty happy with it.
