This young man had a dreamy look in his eyes and attempted to reach for/touch the pedestal. His hands were quickly swatted away before he even got close..
The full text reads "Do Not Block Doors", but there were some renegade branches in the way, and they just didn't make for as nice an image. I really like the texture of the diagonal woodgrain as it goes through the letters.
Ohio Block at 121 E. 1st Street in Fort Scott Kansas. It was built in 1906. The west was to be storage, the center, a restaurant, and the east section, a steam laundry.
Apparently, the interior was subdivided because the July, 1912 Sanborn map recorded five sections: 113 East First, Wells Fargo Express; 115, tailor; 117, plumbing; 119, laundry; and 123, Fort Scott Laundry. Those sections were identified in the 1909 city directory as the Wells Fargo Express, Henry Brown, tailor, Gem Hotel, and the Fort Scott Steam Laundry. Reportedly, Q. L. Cooper leased the center two storerooms
for a restaurant and boarding house and the eastern half of the second floor for lodging rooms. W. J. Calhoun and Company leased the western half of the second floor. Later, the building housed the Courtland Hotel.
It is a contributing building in the Fort Scott Downtown Historic District.

Jenny Block wrote an incredibly honest, interesting book called Open: Love, Sex, and Life in an Open Marriage. She lives in North Dallas and has a husband, girlfriend, daughter, and thriving career as a writer.
I read a preview copy of the book while in Marfa last week and just the sight of the cover sparked some fascinating conversations in the car between Tanya, Erica, Andrea, and me. The whole concept of open marriage usually causes some sort of reaction in people, whether fascination or judgment, curiosity or condemnation. Personally, I alternate between "ick" and "interesting."
I was lucky enough to interview her for Quick and it's the top story on the website today! Sweet! You can read it here.
Oh, and I still have my copy of Open, if anyone would like to read it.
A few photos taken in Historic Sykesville Maryland (which is pretty much two streets wide.)
Rolleiflex T, Tessar 75/3.5 lens. I shot this roll using the Masking Set 16 adapter, which gives 16 rectangular 6x4.5 exposures instead of the usual 6x6 square format.
