Testing out the feasibility of a self-portrait with my new close-up filter + Land Cam setup. It's do-able...but with some caveats. Still, this one came out well enough. Sorry about the bristles; I've not been shaving much recently.
Land Cam 360 + expired 125i Polacolor film. Stained in various household beverages to tone it just so.

There is a history of long friendship between Ethiopia and the United States of America. The relationship started one hundred eighteen years ago when King of Ethiopia Menelik II and U.S. representative Robert P. Skinner signed a treaty of commerce in which the two states agreed to receive representatives ``.. in order to perpetuate and strengthen the friendly relations which exist between Ethiopia and the United States of America.” The relationship stayed in hibernation until the advent of World War II. Upon the defeat of Germany and the Axis powers the US emerged as a world power and Ethiopia gravitated towards the West in the new bi-polar world.
To prove loyalty and be taken as a worthy ally Ethiopia was always ready to give a helping hand whenever the US asked for it. In the fifties our country sent soldiers to Korea to fight on the side of the US but under the UN flag. In the sixties we followed the US lead and contributed peacekeepers to Congo (Zaire) under the UN flag.
I needed some blinking LED's for a prop I'm building.
I haven't built a circuit in about a decade. Took a bit of time to figure out what I was doing again.

These are battery powered Christmas lights that I found at Target. Battery holder takes 4 AA cells and has an on/off switch. No batteries included - so I put in some rechargeables, and so far the batteries have been running 2 days. The pattern constantly changes, from a slower color change to a rapid blink. Each "snowflake" changes from blue to red to green to gold to orange - very cool stuff. It would be nice to be able to tell it to slow down the blinking to a more mellow speed!
Screech owl, gray phase, blinking. "Ambassador" bird for Blackland Prairie Raptor Center (federally licensed to have imprint and/or birds who cannot be rehabilitated to the wild). Shot under permission at photo event - photo rights remain my own but I must seek permission from them for any non-personal or commercial use.
NGC 6118, a grand-design spiral galaxy, shines bright in this image, displaying its central bar and tight spiral arms from its home in the constellation of Serpens (The Snake). The galaxy is sometimes known to amateur astronomers as the “Blinking Galaxy” because this relatively faint, fuzzy object would appear to flick into existence when viewed through their telescopes in a certain orientation, and then suddenly disappear again as the eye position shifted. The brilliant blue star-forming regions of the galaxy, where hot young stars are born, are beautifully illuminated, even from over 80 million light-years away. In 2004, regular observers of this galaxy saw a “new star” appear near the edge of the galaxy (above the centre of the image). Far from being a new star, this object, supernova 2004dk, is in fact the final, powerful burst of light emitted by the explosion of a star. Though shy to lesser telescopes, the galaxy cannot hide from ESO’s Very Large Telescope (VLT) at Cerro Paranal, Chile. The image was obtained using the VIsible MultiObject Spectrograph (VIMOS) at the VLT.

- www.kevin-palmer.com - I think I caught this deer mid-blink. But he wouldn't let me retake the picture.

He did a book signing for his poetry book Blinking With Fists at the Harvard bookstore. I stood in line for hours upon hours in the rain to meet him. And of course I totally blanked out and couldn't think of anything to say. I don't think I even said thanks.
Blinking from the outside of a drugstore. Only there in christmas-time, consequently in the beginning of november. But kind of cute. Its´s the official sign for a german drugstore, so they can´t really account for fitting the architecture.
"...Keenly, without blinking, through pallid, stray
clouds, upon the child in the manger, from far away -
from the depth of the universe, from the opposite end - the star
was looking into the cave. And that was the Father’s stare.
(Joseph Brodsky)
Detail of painting made by an Italian painter in 1925 in Saint Dorotéia chapel in Pouso Alegre, Minas Gerais.
(Atenta, sem pestanejar, por entre pálidas nuvens esparsas, de longe
- das profundezas do universo, de seu extremo oposto -
sobre o menino na manjedoura, ao interior do presépio mirava
aquela estrela. E era do Pai aquele olhar.
Joseph Brodsky, poema escrito em 1987. )

I remember back in the 1960s, during one of the holiday seasons late in the decade...maybe 1967 or 1968...my mom used a bunch of S&H Green Stamps to purchase this blinking Christmas bell. The bell appeared in one of the Green Stamp company's catalogs. We kids were fascinated by the red and green stars, lit from within, flashing in the dark to signal Christmas was coming. As I recall, the bell looked great when it was working, but it often conked out and did not light at all. Eventually the bell disappeared, but I found this pristine vintage one online a few years ago. Funny thing...it flashes for a time, then stops, just like the one we had before.

I talk to God as much as I talk to Satan cos I want to hear both sides. Does that make me cynical? There are no miracles and this is no miraculous life. I savour hate as much as I crave love because I'm just a twisted guy. Is this the pinnacle? Is this the pinnacle? The pinnacle of being alive? Now I see the light. Well I look up to God But I see trouble Cos this ain't a miracle. I just want to take my chance to live through a miracle. I know for certain that Some one is watching But is it from up or down? I make you miserable You stick with me although you know I'm gonna ruin your life I talk to God as much as I talk to Satan cos I want to hear both sides.Does that make me cynical? There are no miracles and this is no miraculous life. We walk into the tide. Well I look up to God but I see trouble cos this ain't no miracle I just want to take my chance to live through a miracle When the seesaw snaps and splinters your hand, don't come crying to me. I'll only see your good side and believe it's a miracle. A miracle. I slap the water and watch the fish dance to the ripples of us. We're just stubborn duds, blinking eyes encased in rust. This ain't a miracle. ain't a miracle. This ain't a miracle. This ain't a miracle. aah aah
300/366
(this is meant to be seen large)
So I have 66 days left of this adventure
It has been 300 days since my best friend moved away
And next year I will be going to Ireland
new year, new place
So much is running through my head
it's blinking.
