The throwing of water originated as a way to pay respect to people, by capturing the water after it had been poured over the Buddhas for cleansing and then using this "blessed" water to give good fortune to elders and family by gently pouring it on the shoulder.
The priest at the Cathedral of St Philip went through gallons of holy water, blessing some of the 60,000 runners.
See the black buckets? Someone from the church would take the smaller bucket inside, come back with it full, and dump the water into the larger bucket. The priest would refill his silver bowl from the large bucket. This went on for three hours.

This lady tells fortune to people. . And here she was giving blessings to one of the guy.. She gave him some Vibhudhi and this guy had accepted that as prasad and all this action was being closely watched by the lady behind, she was the assistant to the fortune teller.
The light was really low, i shot at ISO 1600 that's why this picture is not that crisp..
