Art in the Mine Shaft Tavern.
The pseudo-Latin (there is no word "vivendo" in Latin) phrase, "uva uvam vivendo varia fit", brings to mind the movie Lonesome Dove. In the movie it appears on the Hat Creek Cattle Company sign.
"Coal mining began in the area around 1835. Anthracite coal that was mined here was preferred for passenger trains, as it burned cleaner.
Madrid celebrated its "founding" in 1895. Since the town was for the next 80 years wholly owned by a series of corporations, the town itself was never incorporated. In the late 1940s, the demand for coal withered: natural gas gradually replaced coal as the preferred home-heating fuel, and the AT&SF was replacing its coal-fired steam locomotives with diesel-electrics. By 1954 the Albuquerque and Cerrillos Coal Company ceased to operate and most of the residents moved away."

My goodness... was I ever fortunate today. I was filling in for the principal of a school where I used to be principal and it was the day that the medicine wheel that is part of the school's new play area was to be blessed. It was an amazingly spiritual experience - particularly for a public school - with representatives from the many nations that have students in our district doing the ceremony. A few of the other photos I took today can be found here.

The Blessing of the Animals service recognizes that the animals with whom
we share this planet are important to us, to God, and we are blessed by their
presence in our lives.
After the Aarti, the plate is supposed to acquire the power of the deity. The priest circulates the plate to all those present. They cup their down-turned hands over the flame and then raise their palms to their forehead - the purificatory blessing, passed from the deva's image to the flame, has now been passed to the devotee.
