As we travelled from Galilee to Jericho, we made a stop to wade in the Jordan River. This spot is significant in Christianity and Judaism. It is believed this is the place where the Isrealites crossed the River Jordan into the Promised Land. It is also the place where it is believe that the Prophet Elijah was taken up into heaven in a chariot of fire. Finally, this is also the place where it is believed that Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist.
Many of my companions purchased various sacramentals while in Israel (including many olive wood rosaries). In this shot we hold some of those items as the priest who accompanied us took water from the Jordan, blessed it, and then used the water to bless the sacramentals.
