In addition to getting the despatcho patterns started, the hole where the despatcho would be later be buried was also ceremonially prepared.
The ceremonial preparations began almost an hour before the wedding party and wedding attendees came to the pavilion, with the ceremonial leader doing the initial blessings and laying out of patterns.
The wedding ceremony itself was a Peruvian Despatcho wedding ceremony. Despatcho means to dispatch. During the ceremony, items (some provided by the ceremonial leader and others by the wedding party) -- each with symbolic significance for a happy married life -- were layered on in patterns.
I was the event photographer at my step-son, Casey's wedding in a small town in the Kootenay\s in the interior of BC. Many family and friends stayed right on the property and it had the feel of a family reunion. We arrived Thursday and were among early arrivals; the wedding was Sunday. It was a wonderful, magical time.

Blessing of the foundations of a new six floor apartment building in Chiang Mai Thailand by Brahmin priest. Buddhism exists side-by-side with, and to some extent intermingles with, pre-Buddhist animism and Brahman practices. Most Thais, whether or not they profess to be Buddhists, believe in a rich supernatural world. When ill, or at other times of crisis, or to seek supernatural help, Thais may enlist the aid of a practitioner who is believed to be able to propitiate or obtain help from various spirits. Local spirits are believed to inhabit a variety of objects, and shrines to them may be found in houses, businesses in Buddhist temples, along roads, and in forests. Blessing ceremonies to ward off evil spirits and bad luck are carried out both by Buddhist monks and Brahmins.
I clicked on the airport icon tonight and discovered that, should you need it, you can be blessed....wirelessly.... in my neighborhood.
Not sure what's in the air but too many are suffering. Too many are going through extremely difficult times. No matter how dark things may seem be assured blessings are coming. It may not feel like it at times but know they are just around the corner.
I think that is what she's looking at...the blessings that are approaching. She's surrounded by various shades of purple. A color that is truly powerful in itself. Not only is it intriguingly mysterious, it is also uplifting, spiritual and used often to signify royalty and nobility.
She has an Ankh (Egyptian symbol for eternal life) incorporated in her clothing which has been purposely placed close to her heart. She's rocking a TWA (teeny weeny afro) and fancy oh la la wings.
Blessing of holy water according to the traditional rite - first the salt is exorcised, then the water is exorcised, then the salt is blessed, and the water is blessed, and then the two are mixed together and blessed, and Bob's your uncle...

Apparently the guy who owns this boat has been tinkering with it on the beach for years. This pretty much sums up the laid back nature of Barbados
