Spring foliage growing in the hills of Santa Clara County.
This little intimate landscape vignette comes from a rural county park not far from where I live. I’ve hiked this location for several decades. It is one of my go-to places for quick doses of nature, as I can go there and get in a good hike between breakfast and lunch. Most of the park consists of rather open oak and grassland country, but there are places in the lowlands where things can be quite lush and green at the right times of the year, especially during California’s early spring “impossibly green” season.
I love traveling to more distant landscapes as much as anyone — going to places that seem more rugged and further from the civilized world. But over the years I’ve come to treasure the more local landscapes, too. Admittedly, I’m blessed by living less than an hour from redwood groves and the Pacific Ocean, and only a few hours from the Sierra. But much closer and seemingly less spectacular locations abound here, too.

The hummingbirds of Costa Rica are so beautiful and and come in so many different colors and sizes that one could be overwhelmed, You find different species in different areas which makes the photographic journey very exciting. From the highlands to the lowlands all have a special beauty . We will be going again in November which is our usual time so if any one is interested please contact us. It is a little paradise .

A Montana Rail Link local glides by a vintage church west of Townsend, Montana. Since the Helena Local was abolished last year, switching the lime facility and the lumber transloading in Townsend, has been the responsibility of the Helena switch crew. Thankfully, the switch has been powered by this pristine pair, consisting of GP9 No. 109, and SD40-2XR No. 265.

Finally, after all these years not only did I get to see a pair, but I was able to get a photo. According to the park biologist, this is one of a breeding pair which hatched in the wild. I feel blessed at being able to see them. Zion NP
