I'll be taking a few days break from Flickr, attending to family matters in this busy but beautiful Christmas season.

Sixth and last image in this Autumn Leaves series...

I laid my back on the ground under this Maple tree and pointed upwards past the edge of the branches, capturing the blaze-orange leaves against the light blue sky.

Have a wonderful rest of the week, my Flickr friends :)

My favorite "sunrise in paradise" location on Key West. These palms are featured on Jimmy Buffett's A1A album, and the back cover is about 50 yards north of here. While he lived here this was a favorite spot of his and he wrote a few songs here. Have been attempting to get the best shot of these palms for many years. I'M STILL TRYING!

Who says California doesn't have Fall color?

As the city burned behind him, 'Blaze Runner' didn’t flinch. Trained in shadows, born of fire, and bound by a promise long buried, he surged forward with blade drawn and vengeance in his veins. Today wasn’t about justice—it was about reckoning.

Storming the burning streets, every stride a slow-motion masterpiece. His eyes gleamed with intensity, his armor caught the light just right, and the city trembled at his presence.

He whispered into his comms: “Phase one complete.”

Silence.

Then a voice crackled back:

“Ben... err I mean 'Blaze'… you’re on mute. Again.”

He’d been narrating dramatically to himself for the past ten minutes. The team was three blocks ahead.

Undeterred, he burst through the flames, eyes blazing, every muscle sculpted for vengeance. Civilians scattered, whispers of “the Blaze Runner” echoing down alleyways.

He struck a pose, sword gleaming, ready to face his destiny—

—until a small dog latched onto his leg and wouldn’t let go.

Turns out, he’d rolled through the wrong barbecue joint mid-parkour. Smelled like brisket and randy poodle for hours.

..Bringing me much energy that is much needed........

Refilling fountain pen with Blaze Orange Ink...a quite Summers evening with time to catch up on my journaling...now where's the coffee to make it a perfect evening?

With nearly 200 species of woodpecker worldwide (none reside in Australia, interestingly), it's quite something to be the most common in a land. Welcome, Downy Woodpecker (Picoides pibescens), commonest woodpecker in North America. But its abundance makes it no less a sight to behold, with its bold coloration and gregarious nature. Woodpeckers do not have vocalized songs like many other birds; instead, they drum their messages into trees and other hollow objects!

Noticed these leaves the other day, backlit by the setting sun. The intense colors were set off rather dramatically by the dark shade of an adjacent building. I darkened the shadows in post to enhance the contrast. As I worked on this image I was reminded of a similar photo I took back in May showing blooming flowers. I never gave it much thought, but the vibrant leaves of autumn are a perfect analog for the bright blooms of spring. Summer eventually morphs into a rather monochromatic shade of green. And the color of nature seems to bleed away in winter, leaving us in a sort of BW world for several months. The most vibrant colors seem to cluster around the equinoxes, and even then for just a comparatively short time.
