Fuji ended up getting bladder cancer. Because of my position at the hospital I was able to make some connections and get drugs to treat his cancer at cost. I know it bought us some quality time that last year. This picture was taken a month after his diagnosis. I always keep fresh herbs in my garden. Besides the obvious use in cooking the dogs rub up against them and the herbs act as a wonderful perfume. My favorite is the rosemary. Here Fuji is next to my chives.

Bladder Cicada - Cystosoma saundersii. I don't think this is a Green Grocer based on the spacing of the ocelli but any ID welcome. These guys start up their call on dusk and make noises for around an hour and then they shut down. I was lucky to catch one in the top of a bush (No ID) for a few photos and put it back where it was.
The Cicadas at Ballandean could call all day and you had to be careful walking under their tree as they piddle when disturbed.

when they asked me what kind of music i wanted playing while i was in surgery (even though i would be asleep) i told myself to say pearl jam or the beatles, figuring it would be comforting. i am SUCH a light weight that when they gave me stuff just to calm my nerves (not anastesia) i konked out and they asked right as i was going down "what kind of music do you like?" i said "punk rock" and then i was out like a light. haha damnit! i think they played alice in chains. still cool!!
