Bladder Senna is an invasive shrub with an attitude. It produces yellow pea-like flowers in summer, which quickly mature into unmistakable inflated pea pods, like little balloons. Each leaf bears multiple rounded leaflets, suggestive of a fern or locust tree. Left unchecked, bladder senna may turn into an 8 to 10 foot tall bush. When chopped off, it will quickly re-sprout from its roots.

Bladder wrack is a common mid-shore seaweed, they have distinctive pairs of gas-filled bladders on it's fronds, on either side of the prominent midrib. The bladders help the frond to reach sunlight at high tide. When they are in season, the tips of the fronds develop swollen, warty forked reproductive bodies.
Bladder Sage (Salazaria mexicana). Butterbredt Spring. Piute Mountains. Kern Co., Calif. This plant develops light, paper-thin seed pods that can be dispersed by the wind.

Pat stretches on a full bladder, soon to be pumped into a hard tank at NEEM. NEEM is a mostly Danish but multinational deep ice core drilling camp. What is the purpose of this photo you might ask? Well, I would like to sew a couple of these into my backpack. They are to hold a special Nalgene water bladder. New REI packs come with them built in so this is my recon work in REI.
