Black Eagle, Ictinaetus malayensis, 70 cm. / 27.6 in. Forests, usually seen circling low over the canopy. Here at 2200 meters elevation. Looking up from the depths of the forest, the light was all wrong but I took the shot before it disappeared behind the treetops.

Around 1,300 UK soldiers were honing their skills in the largest armoured deployment to Eastern Europe for six years.
The Kings Royal Hussars Battlegroup was taking part in Exercise Black Eagle under the command of the 10th Polish Armoured Cavalry Brigade and alongside the 1st Polish Tank Battalion at the Zagan Training area in south-west Poland. The exercise included both dry-training and live-firing and was designed to develop interoperability between the two Armed Forces.
Exercise Black Eagle was a key demonstration of UK support to NATO reassurance measures and follows the RAFs commitment of Typhoon aircraft to the Baltic Air Policing Mission and the deployment of HMS Montrose off the Danish coast as part of the multi-national Baltic Ops exercise in June 2014. Further deployments are expected to take place over the next two years.

Not the greatest of a detailed photo but it was very exciting to see this big, impressive eagle almost from my own door-step. They were breeding on a koppie in Tachila but we fear baboons may have taken the sole chick.....
Off to Cape Town for a wee while so won't be posting or commenting till I return.........

Photographed on the roll out after landing at RAF Fairford in 2012. One of the best display teams I have seen.
The Republic of Korea Air Force Aerobatic Team, the Black Eagles, was formed full-time in December 1994.
Since 2010 they have flown eight KAI T-50B Golden Eagle supersonic advanced trainer jets. The aircraft are painted in black, yellow and white colours.
They are part of the 8th Fighter Wing of the Republic of Korea Air Force, and based at Wonju AB, in Gangwon province.

The South Korean 'Black Eagles' were the surprise of the Air Show for me .. their ability to hold formation and close proximity flying is very impressive.
