1960 thrupenny bit - part of 'Charity' sculpture.

First exhibited in 2003 in Hoxton Square park, ‘Charity’ (2002-2003) was on display in the City of London as part of 'Sculpture in the City' 2015. The 'Sculpture in the City' initiative - 2015 was its fifth year – features contemporary works from leading artists, set amongst London's iconic architectural landmarks.

‘Charity’, a 22-foot bronze sculpture based on The Spastics Society (now ‘Scope’) collection boxes commonly found outside local chemists in the 1960s, was installed on Undershaft in front of the Gherkin (30 St Mary Axe, EC3A 8EP) next to St. Helen's Church. The sculpture was originally displayed as part of Romance in the Age of Uncertainty, Hirst’s solo exhibition at White Cube in 2003 and in 2012 was installed on the balcony of the Royal West of England Society in Bristol. Monumental yet vulnerable, the work plays on the art historical tradition of depicting the Virtue of Charity as a single female figure.

Hirst has long been a supporter of Scope, a charity that aims to improve the lives of disabled people in the UK. On the occasion of the installation, Alan Gosschalk, fundraising director at Scope, stated: " 'Charity' is an iconic piece of art. It is also a symbol of changing attitudes to disability over the past 50 years, since collection boxes like the one depicted in this sculpture were seen on high streets across the country ... we hope that this sculpture will encourage conversations about disability amongst people in our capital."

With this ISO 100 photo from a Canon 40D the results are less obvious than with the ISO 800 photo from a 450D. 8 bit again is not enough with very obvious posterization artifacts. 9 bits gets very close to the quality of the 14 bit version but I think there is still a small difference which pretty much disappears in the 10 bit file.

The user interface of the Rawnalyze program is rather annoying. The program gives no indication if it accepted my command to reduce the bit depth. So it often leaves me guessing if the program actually did the intended treatment.

That's the highest public road in the UK going over the hills. We are parked at the top of it. Looks a bit of a climb back there at the moment!

Honestly - most of the routes in Fez are simply too narrow and crowded to photograph. Dark too, a lot of the time. This bit was a little more open and I liked the view of the Minaret, so I took the opportunity for a quick snap.

For April Fool's Day 2012, Google rolled out a fun new feature in Google Maps. In addition to globe, satellite, and default map views, you can also select a rendering that looks like every standard adventure game in the 8-bit Nintendo era. The street view is also rendered accordingly.

Just a bit of fun with me and my beloved playing around on a sunny day.

Caleb's lake at night. I feel like the picture turned out a bit funky with the partially healed bits, and one big ol' scar.... So I may have to update with a healed picture. We did tons of little details and highlights, sculpted out the trees a bit, and touched up this gnarly scarred area in the clouds that with trial and error, we figured was a freak accident between over-ointmenting and over-working maybe.... At first we thought it was a purple reaction, but the next session he got a tiny bit of the same in a green spot. So we decided he should semi-dry heal it, and it's been smooth sailing since...

It's the season of snuggling! What's left of the summer's heat radiated away it's become rather nippy in the Land of the Bed.

For the polar bear contingent this isn't too much of a problem, but for the foxes amongst us "brrrrrr is it cold".

Mr Tom made the mistake of breathing on the camera earlier and everything misted up!

But all this is inconsequential... we're off to see The Quantum of Solice now, and the cinema's heated!

Perennial of damp grassland, woodland rides and marshes. Widespread and common throughout. Basal leaves are spoon-shaped; those on stem are narrow. Blue-purple flowers are borne in rounded heads, 15-25mm across and appear June-October.
