Elizabeth grew up in the countryside of Peru, grazing alpaca and loving to knit.

All she wanted in life was to attend school. But like so many in her community, Elizabeth was prohibited by her parents from further education. “Boys are students,” she was told. “Girls take care of livestock.”

In marriage she found the pattern repeating itself. Her husband went off to study, leaving Elizabeth alone and impoverished, struggling to take care of their young son.

With the help of Heifer, Elizabeth organized other mothers and formed a handicraft association to sell their knitting wares at the local market. The money helps support her family.

Bit by Bit is the story of a woman unwilling to be marginalized.

“There is no strength alone,” she says. “When many of us come together, then there is strength.”

And Elizabeth is staying true to her word, teaching her trade to the young girls of her community.

I have always had a bit of a fascination with twins. Identical or non identical. I like the idea of companionship, symmetry, counterparts, balance. My father is a twin.

I also have a slightly strange and joyous reaction to orange circles. The colour and shape combination pleases me. Orange circles are everywhere once you look, especially in nature and even more especially in my garden. :D I guess ultimately because they symbolise the sun - warmth, positivity, health, life, symmetry, order, reminiscent of an orange's fresh and zesty taste and smell. Orange circles make me smile.

Anyhoo... This treat I pulled from the plant today made me disproportionately happy by most people's standards I'm sure.

On the downside, these didn't taste quite as amazing as the others I've had from the plant. I wonder if there's a reason for that. Sharing an "umbilical cord" I suppose??

I had a bit of a bad dream last night. I dreamt that I was on a ship that sunk and I was floating around the ocean with only a piece of wood to hold onto. I had to keep treading water so I wouldn’t sink. After a while I saw some ships on the horizon, I was quite happy to get out of the horribly wet water. But when the ships came closer I realized that they were only paper boats.

After treading some more water I thought it would be fun to give them names as I had nothing else to do. I named them Endeavour, Beagle and Slice of Cake (I was getting a bit hungry when I named the last one).

Luckily I woke up, I shuddered and then cuddled myself deep into my warm and comfy blanket.

I hope I will only dream of nice meadows from now on... or about stuff to eat :-)

Week 8, Day 55: "Bits and Pieces".

Today the Hereios of the We’re Here! Group are visiting Tributes to the Famous. It's fortunate that my wife is doing a jigsaw puzzle featuring a certain Mexican artist.

A bit of jumpsuit action for a possible project. These are two of my latest jumpsuit designs, both limited editions.

Royal Theatre, 1914, located at 211 Linden Avenue. From 1914-31 operated by Al Eschelbach. In 1931 changed to liquor store, and later to mortuary and paint store. In 1997 the building was renovated and now houses Giorgi Bros. Furniture Store.

One of my most favourite things in the world is to think of a new product idea

Research

and squirrel around for required bits and bobs

and then the icing on my cupcake of creativity ..... make

Oh ..... and then of course stage and take piccies.

My idea for BLING* jewellery hands came out of the blue

and it has not taken too long on this one to finally have them in my etsy shop and in auction.

I am rather happy with them just cos the colours are quite yummy

and I yearn to make more soon and I know that the basic design will evolve.

Made from rubber with a soft padding, my new Bling* Jewellery Hands

can hold a multitude of jewels and as they are squishy soft

make it easy peasy to add and take offrings from the fingers and bracelets around the wrists.

Necklaces also look gorgeous draped over the hand.

Each hand is trimmed with super bright felt and ribbon

wrapped around a solid base and completed with a felt bow.

If you wish to give this Bling* Jewellery Hand as a gift,

each one comes with a gift slip and a gingham sticker to stick onto your parcel.

Bits of scrap cane made useful! :D

Apparently because of the disaster at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ka_Loko_Reservoir no spillway and the fact that nobody can find the original plans, the level of the reservoir has been lowered.

:: 109 :: I am looking forward to having my balcony set up for the warmer days ahead - however, the building has been repainted in the past few weeks, and they have not yet finished my balcony! Check out the notes!

Another bit of silly Photoshopping. I did this ages ago, but only now uploading to Flickr.

A bit of nostalgia, a late night view taken in a Class 205 'Hampshire Unit' sometime in the mid-1980s - most likely between Salisbury and Southampton. Not that sharp due to available light and the inevitable bouncing along jointed rails.

Imagine the throb throb throb of the diesel electric power, the slight smell of wee, maybe salt and vinegar from the recently discarded fish chip wrapper left on the seat behind, all laced with the stench of secondhand Benson & Hedges.

Lassie & a little girl were both playing with this ball at a recent family gathering. She had a blast playing keep away with the dog. Lassie would chase her to get the ball and she would giggle and run. I was lucky to catch this, it happened so fast. It was real bright and I had to tone down the shadow some to see her expression, so I have done some photo shop work on this one. I usually like to keep my photos as photo shop free as possible, but this one was too cute to pass up. Taken July 2008

A bit different from the earlier photo, the trees in the background are still there but otherwise to a casual glance, nothing else is there. The trackbed i think was filled in with the rubble from the demolished building or at an earlier date, levelled over when the building was used by the council. The rubble remains are to the left of this picture which would be directly in the middle of the bridge,
