Went to Ikea yesterday to buy some bits and pieces they missed in their home delivery.
Bumped into full blown Christmas.
A tad early, I think, to put it politely.
A bit of an abstract shot of approximately 60 Goldfinches foraging for seeds. Not sure how it happened but most of them seem to be in the focal plane, pity they were going in the opposite direction.
Reminds me of one of those Jackson Pollock paint splatter artworks.

I carry a really cheap set of neutral density filters in my bag, just for this kind of shot. They have a magenta cast when several are used together, this shot used an ND4 (2 stop), a ND8 (3 stop) and a GND8 (3 stop graduated)

A bit of a sleeping Welsh dragon is this Welsh slate quarry. Renowned my many and rightly so. It's a colossal feature set high in the hillside next to Llanberis and was always going to be the highlight of my trip over the border. And it certainly didn't disappoint. I took with me, an extensive route guide that took me around the whole quarry, supplied by www.flickr.com/photos/pentlandpirate/ who seems to have made Dinorwic his second home over the years. I might as well have had a VR headset on, it was so well constructed and concise and gave me the opportunity to see everything. So thanks, Mike. Much appreciated. It was a place that I wished I'd visited a decade back, as many of its features, buildings and unbelievably built stepped paths, have slipped into an inexorable decline. How it must have looked then. Delve into its history and how the slate was mined by the remarkable men of Wales and the place takes on a whole new aura. It was a remarkable days outing aided with me never seeing a soul within the quarry all day. I'd read up, done the You tube vids and worried about its clear and obvious dangers, but nothing had really prepared me for the sheer beauty that lay up the hillside that day.
Bit of a crop but still quite chuffed, they were doing their courtship thing and calling so loudly you could hear them from a mile away.

Looking forward to my salon opening up soon where i can give my epilator a rest and have a full waxing again. Yes she does do my naughty bits and believe me its not pleasant. But the feel is wonderful after a few hours calming down. Smooth is heaven. I was wondering if anyone else goes to a salon. Unfortunately I have to go into town for my pedicure and manicure but Honestly it's the best feeling in the world to pamper yourself.
Another one left over from my trip to Oregon in Dec/Jan, same place as the previous shot but a few steps back, not nearly as dramatic but still kinda cool I think :-)

my highlight from today was a five second flight by a bittern , a lifer for me and even though I never got a focus lock on its good enough for me .. well pleased
A marmalade hoverfly (Episyrphus balteatus), like the one in the background on the photo I posted last night, on a devil's-bit scabious (Succisa pratensis) one late summer day.
As I wrote last night, we can still find some nice insects outside, and I will still bring my macro lens on my trip to the bird station today, in case of any nice encounters smaller than birds.

I can always dream about what he might look like in a few months. Deer are ever-present on the bayou, but they are not noted for standing out in the open when people are around. This would be a handsome buck when the rut arrives in the winter. Photo taken on Armand Bayou. White-tail Deer standing tall at the water’s edge.

After Baz identified the A7Vs above, I thought it only fitting I give the photograph a bit of a face-lift.
This assessment from Baz aka "diggerdogroff" of the photograph.
"A7V 560 is probably lurking in the rear behind 540, going by its similar, albeit faint, skull and crossbones and complete absence of large front flapped vision ports.
Both 540 and 560 served in Abteilung 1 in the Battle of la Montagne de Reims against the French on 15 July 1918. As both also came through unscathed, everything seems to fit nicely with Brett's superb photo above."
The tank's name was derived from that of its parent organization, Allgemeines Kriegsdepartement, 7. Abteilung, Verkehrswesen.

Slept in a bit on Friday after getting up and checking the weather at 5:30. It was pretty much the same as Thursday so we decided there was no point going out and taking practically identical photos.
We went kayaking on Okarito Lagoon which was pretty cool except I managed to get myself completely soaked and Dad laughed at me. We saw Godwits, Pipers, Spoonbills, a blue heron and a couple of white herons. Dad and I were sharing a kayak and right as we were nearly back to shore managed to get stuck! It wasn't that bad though because a white heron was standing in the water maybe three or four metres away from us so that was awesome. We got unstuck after a little bit and returned to shore. I was so glad of a shower then!
After lunch Bee and I packed up our stuff and packed it into her car and set off. We had a break in Hokitika for a while and then drove as far as Kumara Junction before Bee remembered that we forgot to get petrol and the needle was on E. Luckily we weren't too far away from Hokitika so were able to drive back and fill up the tank.
We didn't stop again until Arthur's Pass for a quick toilet break and also made friends with four Keas who were hanging out by the carpark.
From there we drove on until we reached Castle Hill which has totally amazing limestone rock formations. It's near Flock Hill Station which was used in The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe. Both Bee and I got a bit carried away with our cameras and when we got back to the car realised just how long we'd been there.
She dropped me home about ten and I was very glad of being able to go to my own bed and have a nice long sleep. Speaking of bed, that's where I'm headed right now because I have yet another early start tomorrow because I have a plane to catch and a course to go to (and my Viking Essay to finish off).
Just a bit of a fun shot this one. The weather was bad rain and high winds all afternoon so there was only one place to go, the pub. The Port William at Trebarwith Strand provided us with a few pints and a lovely dinner.There was never likely to be a sunset that evening but when I put a tea light behind my pint of Tribute the golden ale gave me the best colours I had seen all day. This beer has to be my fave when in Cornwall . Cornish born and bred absolutely gorgeous like my wife Jane who`s father was a Cornishman from St Ives. A follow up shot of the weather outside that afternoon / evening tomorrow .
A new series of mine, started to try some kind of unusual shots. As the most of my visitors know I usually photograph landscapes, macros and sunsets. But there is more to find for a photographer, and I hope to find more. :-)
