On the day that the gho chicks first began branching, the adult female took position on the highest branch nearest the nest tree and struck this pose as if to say, "Don't mess with my kids!" She was challenged, only briefly, by some fish crows, a herring gull, and an osprey. She stood her ground.

One of the most photogenic creatures I've had the pleasure to come across. He sat patiently while I tried to get a shot of him in challenging light. Thank you Mr. Owl.

Red Kite...Harewood House!

I'm unsure of this bird. Maybe a Buzzard? Two of them in the same stand of trees.

My last bird subject of 2013 to open up 2014 HAPPY NEW YEAR

A birthday treat from my wife - a day out with Wildlife photographer Alan Hewitt alanhewittphotography.co.uk/ and birds from Andy Howey's Bird of Prey Centre; Haggerston Castle, Northumberland. Photo-Set www.harrisonaphotos.co.uk/Landscapes/Birds-of-Prey-2018/

A bit noisy but it was the best I could manage in the horrible lighting conditions. I know the sun is up there somewhere ...

Bald Eagles Nesting in New Jersey

“The Rebound in the Garden State”

New Jersey was once home to more than 20 pairs of nesting Bald eagles (Haliaeetus leucocephalus). As a result of the use of the pesticide DDT, the number of nesting pairs of Bald eagles in the state declined to only one by 1970 and remained at one into the early 1980's. Use of DDT was banned in 1972. That ban combined with restoration efforts by biologists within the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife's Endangered and Nongame Species Program (ENSP) acted to increase the number of New Jersey Bald eagles to 119 active pairs in 2013 and 177 young produced.

One of my faves! Just love the colours.

Red-Tailed Hawk

Buteo jamaicensis

Driving into work this morning, I saw this red-tailed hawk just sitting on a wire surveying the landscape below him. On a whim, I decided to see if I could get close enough for a shot. This was the result.

Most definitely check this out large.
