My friend Bob Haase and I had a good vantage point to watch the comings and goings of this osprey family. The parents had three youngsters to care for. We watched them carrying fish, sticks, and wet pond plants to keep the nest cool. At times all three babies would stick their heads up and look at the world.

The barred owl, also known as the northern barred owl, striped owl or, more informally, hoot owl, is a North American large species of owl. A member of the true owl family, Strigidae, they belong to the genus Strix, which is also the origin of the family's name under Linnaean taxonomy.

There are two owlets in this nest. Mom was feeding them both rabbit.

This open-country hunter is one of the world's most widely distributed owls, and among the most frequently seen in daylight. Don't look too eagerly for the ear tufts, which are so short they're often invisible. More conspicuous features are its black-rimmed yellow eyes staring out from a pale facial disk. These birds course silently over grasslands on broad, rounded wings, especially at dawn and dusk. They use acute hearing to hunt small mammals and birds. allaboutbirds.org

I had the barn owl hovering right in front of me it certainly gave me a lot of shots to sort out
