Had the most awesome day at Claire Carter and Hawkeye Bird of Prey Photography Workshop in Thoresby Park. A privilege to get close to such beautiful birds and I learned such a lot about bird photography that I hope I can put in to practice in future. My photos (just a few here out of 100s I took today) are pale imitations of what is achievable but I'm happy with (some of) my efforts with limited kit.
I lost the sweet light on this guy and it was in the shade. There were three of them and they were sharing a kill. I believe it's a Kestrel.
Caracara plancus - The Southern Caracara can look a bit like a large chicken from a distance as it struts along the ground and frequently feeds there. It has long yellow legs and a bushy black crest. It also has a red cere which apparently turns yellow when the bird is excited. In flight from below it shows conspicuous white patches on its outer primaries.
