A male Common Pheasant peaks through the reeds and long grass, its vibrant colors contrasting beautifully with the spring greens. There's even a tiny insect caught in flight to the left!

I was poised about 40 feet from the perch this owl was using when he spotted his prey. To my surprise, after he caught it he flew right at me and landed at a perch 15 feet from me. After landing, he spotted me, gave me a few looks, then devoured the grasshopper.

The American White Ibis (Eudocimus albus), a frequent subject of my lens, is beautifully framed here against the lush background of Gatorland, Orlando. Its stark white plumage, accented by a vibrant red bill and matching legs, creates a striking contrast that is a delight to capture. As a bird photographer, I am continually drawn to the challenge of capturing the essence of such creatures in their natural surroundings. The Ibis, with its probing bill and inquisitive stance, provides a particularly compelling tableau.

In this shot, the depth of field is carefully shallow, blurring the greenery just enough to draw the eye to the Ibis’s detailed textures, from the soft feathers to the unique coloration of its extremities. The lighting was just right, highlighting the Ibis with a natural luminescence while casting a gentle shadow that contours its form. Sharing this image with fellow photographers, I hope to convey not just the technical aspects of wildlife photography, but the profound joy of celebrating nature through the art of the still image.

Un Dendrocopos major buscando larvas de insectos para alimentarse, en un viejo tronco.

Last light of the day turns their feathers to fluid and makes them look like a painting.

Metallic starling. Aplonis metallica.

The adult has brilliant red eyes, a long forked tail and green-glossed black plumage. Immatures are pale below with dark streaks.

They are very social and flocks of them build messy suspended globular nests. During the height of the breeding season they will attach their nests to nearly any type of tree. Even using the seed stems on palm trees to attach as many nests as possible. They remain in the area until the chicks have all fledged. They gather together into large flocks before heading back to New Guinea around April returning for breeding around September.

In crimson, green, and sapphire blue.

It hovers light from bloom to bloom,

A guardian of the blossoms fair,

It spreads the seeds with tender care.

Oh, sunbird small, with colors bold,

A living gem, a tale retold.

In nature's song, you play your part,

A fleeting joy, a work of art.

The pied bush chat is a small passerine bird found ranging from West Asia and Central Asia to the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. About sixteen subspecies are recognized through its wide range with many island forms.
