Basilica of Our Lady of the Assumption Neuchatel

commonly known as the Red Church1 , is a Catholic place of worship built between 1897 and 1906. The architecture of this large building does not sacrifice the stylistic unity favoured in the 19th century, but skilfully juxtaposes neo-medieval references and resolutely contemporary constructional solutions. The erection of this church also has a symbolic aspect, marking in a tangible way the rise and acceptance of Catholicism in Neuchâtel at the end of the 19th century.

Ezra's SP last week. I didn't get around to editing it until the other day. And I didn't really like how my first edit turned out so I made a few changes. I'm still not fully happy with it, but it's much better compared to my first attempt. It's very similar to her Week 4 self portrait (the one where she is summoning a dragon).

Her description:

This week we found a baby owl in our garden. We placed it in our bird cage because the dogs or cats will definitely kill it. It looked really weak so we contacted the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) to take care of it. They came over to our house and picked it up. They told us that it was a Scops Owl and that it was still a baby. I hope that baby owl is doing well now, it was really cute.

Thanks a lot to my sister for taking my picture and editing it!

Seagulls know when there's a feast

There were a lot of ant-hills on the neighbouring field, so farmer put a small bucket onto his digger and dug them out. The following day, he fitted up his tractor with a drag-hoe to break-up the dug-up ant-hills to expose the ant and their eggs - leaving the birds do the rest of job.

I blinked first.

A citrine wagtail with its long legs looking for food in the grass stopped to look at me and then continued its business.

This is the biggest little owl. He has been out of the nest for awhile and seems to be getting along alright.

Light just wasn't there this afternoon so the noise levels are pretty high on this one. A gorgeous coloured nonetheless and one I've been after for a long time

Our local wildlife hospital and museum (Lindsey Wildlife Museum in Walnut Creek, CA) had their holiday staff appreciation party last week, and I supplied a "bird themed" dessert for them.

I wanted to do something simple and elegant... not specific to any holiday. When I delivered the cake, Rachael (the hospitals volunteer coordinator) said the birds looked like a Hermit Thrush, and coincidentally ~ they winter here in the Bay Area. I said, yes of course ~ I planned it like that! (wink, wink!)
