I hear Empire down

I hear Empire down

I hear the sons of the city and dispossessed

Get down, get undressed

Get pretty but you and me

We got the kingdom, we got the key

We got the empire, now as then

We don't doubt, we don't take direction

Lucretia, my reflection, dance the ghost with me

Lucretia My Reflection is a song by English rock band the Sisters of Mercy. Released as the third and final single from their second studio album, Floodland, in June 1988, it peaked at number 20 on the UK Singles Chart. Aside from the reference to Lucrezia Borgia, Lucretia was a woman whose rape triggered the collapse of the Roman empire. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucretia_My_Reflection

The Manchester Baby, also called the Small-Scale Experimental Machine (SSEM), was the world's first electronic stored-program computer machine. It was built at the University of Manchester by Frederic C. Williams, Tom Kilburn, and Geoff Tootill, and ran its first program on 21 June 1948. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manchester_Baby

Maybe I'll start a series on old Grand Prix. Mine will be a classic in about 20 more years.

Technical note: I had a Nikon Speedlight in my left hand and held to illuminate the front end a little more. I think it helps.

Weird farm equipment built by Hagie, used for fertilizing Braun Farm fields in Saline Michigan.

Cassadee Pope, ACM Party For a Cause Red Carpet, Orleans Arena, Las Vegas, NV April 5, 2013

The workpiece is 2-3 FEET (24-36 inches) in diameter and it's spinning fast enough to be cut. You can see some of the chips flying off around the bit. That takes a serious machine. Even though it's work lighting, it really struck me; and with how gingerly Jorge was moving the adjustment wheels, it was more like he was an artist practicing his craft than a machinist.

security kicked me off the property before i could climb up onto one and get more shots.... guess they thought i was the competition or something

The old Triple K type harrow looks a little out of place in front of modern Caterpillar earth moving machinery at Newhall, Naas in County Kildare.

This is more of the tour of Custom Alloy in High Bridge, NJ. The sheer scale of the workpieces blew me away. That glowing orange thing is 8-foot-tall, solid, pure, HOT steel. It's in a 6000 TON press...While it's still glowing red hot...You could feel the heat from 20 feet away like you were standing directly in front of a space heater.

Was fun taking these shots. I climbed over a gate which was a bit ricketty and ended up losing my balance and falling on some nice big rocks, bruising my hands and knees, and denting my phone! I also helped some guys who managed to get two 4WD's bogged as I just happened to have a shovel in my car.

These things are massive. You really have to see them in person to appreciate the size of them.
