When Sirchuckles and I discussed this road trip/meetup, we felt that a stop at the old rusty Cadillac west of Rochelle was a requirement. While we were there, the guy who takes care of this place (mows the grass, keeps an eye out for scoundrels like us) drove up and we had a very nice chat. We learned the Cadillac owner's name (it's for sale if you're interested) and a little history of the place. It's parked outside, by the way, because the owner stores his boat in the barn. He also said that this place gets its share of photographers too. He was a very nice guy who has lived in the area for 70 years and three generations of his family are farmers. I've got names, but I'll not publish them to the world. If you would like them, please let me know.

I had a conversation with my son James this week-end ~ We talked mostly about Astrophysics ~ I do not get to talk much to my son lately because he is studying, doing research on blackholes ( he is researching the effects that a blackhole has on a star close to the event horizon/ the edge of a blackhole ) and writing astrophysics papers , ~ Anyways , we have been talking Astrophysics since he started talking years ago~ Got him interested in the subject by watching Carl Sagan's " Cosmos " show on TV~ Of course my main question is why are we here ? And why do we live on a planet like the earth which is at a perfect distance from the Sun and etc..etc..~ Well..I learned something new this week-end, that some of you might already know ~ The earth is really not the most perfect planet for life ~ And the sun is not the perfect star either ~ Had the sun been smaller, its life would have been longer...well , we still have about 5 billion years before the sun turns into a red giant, however within one billion years the sun would have already grown big enough to make life too hot on Earth for us to stay ~ If the sun had been smaller we could still have 100 billion years before it turns into a red giant ~ In the long run..and for the survival of the species, we will have to get away from the sun ~ It is possible that in the future we use an asteroid ... we will make it fly by ( we would have to ride the asteroid somehow to guide it ) close enough to the Earth in order to alter the Earth orbit around the sun, and therefore escaping the sun deadly heat when it starts turning into a red giant ~ But still, this does not answer our question " why are we here ? "~ The experiment at CERN, now under way ( we might not know the results for years ) may help us understand a bit more ~

Taylor Swift is an American country-pop singer-songwriter, and actress that got her start in 2006.
I went with Brad yesterday to go take some sunset pictures and we had some extra time beforehand, so we headed to an abandoned building that had a front end loader parked out front..
I tried a few normal pictures of it and thought they were alright, but nothing too amazing... Slightly disappointed, I walked around front and saw this.
I found the picture I wanted.
3 exposure HDR (handheld!) in Photomatix with some Topaz Detail and CS3 love. I know the DOF is a little too small, but it was handheld - I couldn't do it any other way.
PS - I think I'll upload one or two more later since I haven't kept up.

Got a chance this Summer to visit Fort McMurray. Very interesting place with lots to see. These machines were amazing, it's the size of a house!

Shake It Off is a song by American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. The lyrics were written by Swift, who co-composed the music with producers Max Martin and Shellback. Shake It Off is an uptempo dance-pop song featuring a saxophone line in its production. The song was the lead single from her fifth studio album, 1989, which Swift marketed as her first pop album. It was released for digital download worldwide in 2014, by Big Machine Records.

On show at Hillhead this week were three big Cat machines. The 777 is one of CAT's most popular medium-sized trucks, carying around 90 tons payload. This machine and around
15 identical twins are going to the big opencast coal operation on the site of Tower Colliery, Blaenavon. Also on display was a CAT (Bucyrus) 6030 shovel, weighing 300 tons and one of 4 destined for the Tower opencast.
To put these fairly big machines in perspective, CAT's 797 dumptruck carries 300 tons and their 6090 shovel weighs a smidgen under 1000 tons.

Was fun taking these shots. I climbed over a gate which was a bit ricketty and ended up losing my balance and falling on some nice big rocks, bruising my hands and knees, and denting my phone! I also helped some guys who managed to get two 4WD's bogged as I just happened to have a shovel in my car.
