Decided to do a little shoot for work with a friend who was kind enough to model for us. The sweater was a guy's size so it didn't fit her that well but all worked out still.
This is a high-mountain summer bird, but they usually goes lower in tough winters. At this time of year they're still plentiful here... we've not had a freeze yet.

The hit American boy band Mindless Behavior finished off their first tour of this country with their final concert before returning to America at Enfield Grammar School, as a guest of the Student Council. The band, a massive success in America, with over a million followers on twitter and a huge fan base on You Tube, were in England on a promotional tour.
As part of our links with the local community we invited both students from St Anne’s and Enfield County to attend. The band performed four hits off their debut album that is presently at number seven in the American Album chart, followed by a question and answer session and autograph signing. Over 400 boys and girls from the schools were chosen by their Heads of Year to see the band as a reward to recognise their excellent efforts and behaviour in the last few months.
Well done to everyone who helped organise this event particularly all Grammar Sixth Form prefects who gave up their time to help stage the event.

To promote forest health and reduce hazardous buildups of brush, branches, and needles that could result in a catastrophic wildfire, the Airport Road South Prescribed Fire was conducted on May 11, 2016, by the BLM Carson City District-Sierra Front Field Office. This photo shows low fire consuming needles, brush, and branches, making more room for the Jeffrey pines to grow and reducing the chances of wildfire.
this is the type of behavior heather encourages out of me when she asks me to meet up with her for a "mellow night at plush."

The pellets sink. At the beginning, the fish aren’t as successful at catching them. However – they soon learn to predict the sinking and will swim to intercept the food.

I have no clue what was going on here. The flies approached each other on this leaf and interacted for a a minute. 5 seconds before this position, they had a possible couple of seconds copulation. After almost a minute of this, they went their separate ways.
CA. SEA LIONS: MOSS LANDING

(Photo Note: Please look at the chorus line of sea lions in Moss Landing. It appears that they are practicing Olympic Synchronized Swimming. In fact they are auto-regulating their body temperature. Heat loss in water is about 27 times faster than in air of the same temperature. A sea lion often regulates its body temperature by lifting and exposing one or more flippers. The blood vessels just under the skin dilate and absorb or release heat to the environment.)
Behavior
California sea lions are very social animals, and groups often rest closely packed together at favored haul-out sites on land or float together on the ocean's surface in "rafts." They are sometimes seen "porpoising," or jumping out of the water, presumably to speed up their swimming. Sea lions have also been seen "surfing" breaking waves. California sea lions are opportunistic eaters, feeding on squid, octopus, herring, rockfish, mackerel, and small sharks. In turn, sea lions are preyed upon by Orcas (killer whales) and great white sharks.
At The Marine Mammal Center
California sea lions are our most common patients at The Marine Mammal Center. In 2009, we admitted over 1700 animals. Nearly 1400 of these were California sea lions. The most common reasons California sea lions are rescued include: malnutrition, domoic acid toxicosis, leptospirosis, cancer, pneumonia, entanglement in debris or fishing gear, gunshots, and other wounds. In 2009, many of the sea lions that stranded were malnourished yearlings. Animals can become severely underweight from maternal separation, disease, lack of food sources, effects of El Niño and other environmental factors. In 1998, the Center diagnosed the first case of domoic acid toxicosis in marine mammals; a condition caused by harmful algal blooms, which causes the animals to have seizures. Although the Center has conducted extensive studies to better understand this disease, hundreds of sea lions are affected annually. (Source: Marine Mammal Center 2015: www.marinemammalcenter.org/)
Very rough water at Jupiter Inlet and these guys braved the waves to go into the ocean. They didn't stay there long but it was just a little too dangerous for most boats this size..
