Blooming in my yard. For some reason, the deer are not eating them this year! They have taken over a large part of one of my flower beds so I will need to pull out quite a few...so it goes.

Begonia is a genus of perennial flowering plants in the family Begoniaceae. The genus contains more than 1,800 different plant species. The Begonias are native to moist subtropical and tropical climates. Some species are commonly grown indoors as ornamental houseplants in cooler climates. In cooler climates some species are cultivated outside in summertime for their bright colourful flowers, which have sepals but no petals. Begonia is one of the largest genera of flowering plants. The species are terrestrial (sometimes epiphytic) herbs or undershrubs, and occur in subtropical and tropical moist climates, in South and Central America, Africa, and southern Asia. Terrestrial species in the wild are commonly upright-stemmed, rhizomatous, or tuberous. The plants are monoecious, with unisexual male and female flowers occurring separately on the same plant; the male contains numerous stamens, and the female has a large inferior ovary and two to four branched or twisted stigmas. In most species, the fruit is a winged capsule containing numerous minute seeds, although baccate fruits are also known. The leaves, which are often large and variously marked or variegated, are usually asymmetric (unequal-sided). 7588

This Begonia plant was given to me by my daughter for Mother's day some years ago and is still blooming!
One from last night's camera motion Offshoot outing, organised by Mary Hahn.
I've shot flowers with a steadier hand and better definition (honestly, I have), but I love the colours. :-)
She reveled in their power, of course, and enjoyed it -
two begonias - more than just their sum -
her heart strings running deep through
and right up to their surface,
where her heart, the heart of his desire;
bore pathways to her inner being,
for her willing submissive abandonment upon a welcome touch,
upon a proper touch...

I told you I had shot a few flowers before I had surgery to work on while healing. So here is another.
A very interesting email from a sculptor who has been selected as one of the 4 finalists to sculpt the inaugural medallion for the next presidential inauguration. He wants to use a couple of my eagle shots for the reverse. How Cool is that. :)

A kind friend stopped by in May with a trailerful of begonias and told me to take my pick. Thanks, Barry!
(162/365) Begonias might not be the most insect friendly flower with all their frilly petals but I do love them
A Rex begonia (Escargot) leaf backlit by late afternoon sun! Pretty cool colours and textures! I had forgotten these!!
