Where to begin. Exclamations such as ”Bloody hell!!”, ”Damn that was close!! And …”Ill have that horn so far up your backside that the community proctologist will have his work cut out for him!” spring to mind.
”Close shave, ”damn where did he come from” and ”Hey!!! this is a pavement you %$& (garbled swearing in a high pitched sqeal of pure terror).
But to generalize, the word chaotic is probably quite correct. Ok, I admit to my lack of ”how do this really work” steps in, but to me, green ”Walk” sign does not include a couple of lorries, a bunch of bikes and a sprinkle of taxis burst forth and honk the shadow of me (it is still down town trying to cross that 4x4 lane crossing). I made it across, ofcourse, after a fashion.
There probably is a law there underneath but it seem to be dormant so to speak. I have seen taxicabs leasurely cutting off ambulances and ignoring the honking, and blinking for 5 minutes before determinately cutting across pavements and a bikepath to keep the ambulance behind.
Lets talk about lanes for non motorized traffic. There are two types to be found. One for bikes and trikes and such small traffic and then there is the pavement. But that is not that simple. Not at all, absolutely not.
Just walking down the local main road I heard very aggressive honking. I did not pay attetion as the honking is pretty much relentless. But this is what I saw, a taxi in the bike land blazing a trail with the horn in the bikelane. Well, he met his match but he honked for the 3 minutes he stood there. Normally I would have written this down as emergency but I do not think so. Not at all.
On July 20th, Hood ordered the attack to begin at 1:00 P.M. Hardee and Stewart were to advance, drive the enemy back to the creek, and then west into the angle formed by the creek and the river; but events east of Atlanta caused the line to be shifted about a mile to the east, delaying the attack until all but Ward's division of the enemy had occupied strong ground in line of battle. Bate's division (Hardee's right) halted with its right at Clear Creek and its left reaching Walker's right near Peachtree and Spring streets. Walker's left met Maney's right near Brookwood Station. Maney's left joined the right of Loring's divsion (Stewart's right) which now occupied Loring Heights. Loring's left extended to meet Walthall's right near Northside Drive and Bellemeade Avenue. Walthall's left regiments halted west of Howell Mill Road. About 3:30, Hardee moved forward. Stewart a half hour later. Walker's advance, astride Peachtree Road, was impeded by uncut forest growth, Maney's by a miry creek bottom and steep hills, Bate's by the swampy densely-thicketed bottoms of Clear Creek. At Collier Road, Walker's charging men met a withering fire of musketry and canister from Newton's lines. Althought they fought desparately, heavy losses forced them back. On their left, Maney's men also met defeat. In the creek bottom, Bate swung around Newton's left flank to attack his rear, but Bradley's men, massed along the road overlooking the creek, met them with musketry. At the Peactree Creek bridge, Thomas in person emplaced Ward's two batteries on the high ground along Peachtree Hills Avenue. Canister from these guns shattered Bate's right. Already suffering from Bradley's musketry, his men fell back. Having no reserves, Hardee could not renew the attack so he withdrew. About 4:00, Stewart's corps attacked. Loring moved forward with Featherstons' brigade on the right, Scott's on the left. Featherston's men crossed Tanyard Branch and moved through dense woods into a wide clearing. They reformed their lines (astride Dellwood Drive) under firs from Geary's batteries, firing from their left. Sweeping back the Federal picket line barricaded along it, the charged over Collier Road and into the gap between Newton's right and Geary's left; but a cross fire of musketry from those positions, together with War's arrival, drove them back with severe losses. Ward's mean too position alone Collier Road.
Just sitting down for our truly amazing meal at Langbaan. I felt high from the food and since I was not drinking that means I can give all credit to the incredible food. We'll go back when I'm not pregnant and can do the wine pairings. YUM!!!

RNs Begin 7-Day Strike at Kaiser’s LA Flagship Hospital
Registered nurses at Kaiser Permanante’s flagship Los Angeles Medical Center begin a seven-day strike this morning with a focus on improving staffing to protect patient care and achieving economic gains to retain experienced RNs and boost recruitment of new nurses.
The walkout affects 1,200 RNs, member of the California Nurses Association/National Nurses United who are seeking their first CNA collective bargaining contract.

The wall is a tribute to Tom Hendrix's great-great-grandmother, a Yuchi who was born in what is now NW Alabama. She was removed int what became known as the Trail of Tears, but eventually walked back all the way from the Oklahoma territories. His wall was built one stone at a time, just as her journey was made one step at a time. And just like her journey, it winds, has high spots & low spots.
He has rocks from 127 States, countries & islands, including stones from the Arctic & Antarctic, the top of Everest, & the bottom of the ocean. I'm planning to send him some mahogany obsidian from Northeast California, maybe several others from my collection.
It has received recognition as a significant piece of environmental art. The wife of Alabama's Governor Bob Riley wanted to turn it into a tourist destination, but Mr Hendrix refused. That's not what the wall is about.

Boy, this image was fortuitously inspired by this week's Macro Mondays theme. We happened to be on the outer "B"anks of North Carolina on vacation, and found this "B"rain coral on the "B"each...As always, thanks for your views, comments and faves!
Tjee, waar begin ik? Een kort verslag van onze laatste avond in het
kruispunt van east meets west? Onmogelijk. Ga maar mee de volgende
keer. Terwijl de Efesdampen langzaam uit m'n degenereerde hersenpan
wegtrekken en m'n verkrampte kaakspieren van de vele lachstuipen zich
langzaam weer ontspannen, toch een enkele highlight. Maar allereerst
een tip: zoek op reis een mooie locatie, bij voorkeur een terrasje op
aardig verkeersknooppuntje, trek een beetje de aandacht (een beetje
maar Frank!), wordt vrienden met enkele hoofdpersonen van het verhaal
dat dan geschreven gaat worden (obers, taxichauffeurs, meukverkopers
etc.) en laat de avond aan je voorbij trekken. Heerlijk. De kunst is
om zo lang mogelijk te blijven zitten, niet weggaan om vertier te
zoeken, maar laat het vertier jou vinden. En dat gebeurde in vol
ornaat. O ja, een highlight. Op m'n iPhone (aaifoon) zit een gratis
app waarmee je enkele zwoele modellen in bikini voorgeschoteld krijgt.
De Turken (uit een land waar je niet eens YouTube op internet kan
bekijken) werden wild. Door met je vinger subtiel over het schermpje
te strijken onthult zich iedere keer weer een nieuwe schone of kun je
inzoomen op de details. Mahmut werd bezeten. Zijn speciaal gewassen
vinger vloog over het schermpje. De oefs, aahs en de by Allah's vlogen
over het terras. Helemaal hilarisch werd het toen Mahmut als een
volleerde circusdirecteur/peepshowmanager de iPhone trucdoos open trok
voor een bevriende Irakeze Koert met een broer uit 'Spikernizz'. De
oogbollen vielen uit kassen, tongen kwijlend uit open monden. Mahmut:
"how you want them, my friend? Please tell me. Small, medium, extra
large?". En behoedzaam knepen zijn vingertjes over het glazen
schermpje, rondom en inzoomend op het bovenstukje van babe nummer 4.
En wat zit er nu in het plasticzakje? Handel. Dit plezier is niet
gratis, Mahmut, we hebben een nieuw kleedje nodig in de bus, precies
zo een als hier op de tafel. 'Deal, but pleazz hide, don't open bag,
boss will kill me. Oohhh, can i see Franks sisters just one more time?
Yes, hello.. Say hello to Mahmut, you like me too?'.

The story of Rahu and Ketu
Menachem Begin - 1949. Born in Brest-Litovsk, Poland and in 1943 he was chief of the Irgun. He was the leader of the Irgun during the Altalena ship with arms affair - vs. Ben-Gurion and the Hagannah. In 1978 he shared the Nobel Peace Prize with Anwar Sadat after Sadat came to Jerusalem to make peace the previous year.
The Norooz holiday season includes several symbolic and meaningful celebrations and rituals begining with the last Wednesday of the year, called the Chahar Shanbe Soori (translation yields "Wednesday Fire").On Tuesday evening (the night before the last Wednesday) every family celebrates the Chahar Shanbe Soori.
At the center of this traditional celebration is giving thanks for the fortune of having made it through another healthy year and to exchange any remaining paleness and evil with the life and warmth of the fire. Chahar Shanbe Soori is deeply rooted in Iranians' Zoroastrian past (Persian people's dominant religion prior to Islam). The part of this night especially popular with the youngsters is the bonfire. Every family gathers several piles of wood or brush to be lit shortly after the sunset.
All family members line up and take turns jumping safely along (and over) the burning piles, singing to the fire:
"Sorkheeyeh toe az man; zardeeyeh man az toe."
This translates to:
"Your redness (health) is mine; my paleness (pain) is yours."
Although a recent addition and generally against the law in the urban areas, the sights and sounds of fireworks are very common to this night.
Another routine of the Chahar Shanbe Soori festival is the Iranian version of Trick or Treating associated with the Western Halloween night. Flocks of often young trick or treaters, hidden under a traditional Chador (veil) go from door to door banging a spoon against a metal bowl asking for treats or money.
Another old and almost obsolete Chahar Shanbe Soori ritual is Falgoosh (fortune hearing!) This ritual was carried out usually by young women wanting to know their chances of finding the "Mr. Right" in the coming year. Falgoosh is the act of standing in a dark corner spot or behind a fence and listening to the conversations of the passers by and trying to interpret their statements or the subject of their dialogue as an answer to one's question(s)! This is analogous to calling a psychic reader to find out your fortune!!!
In the past several decades falgoosh has gradually become an almost unacceptable and "politically incorrect" ritual and is seldom practiced in the major urban areas.

First Day of School
It’s that time of the year again…back to school… and schools around the division rolled out “the welcome mat” for the big day! The school division welcomed nearly 70,000 students for the first day of school. At John B. Dey Elementary, the first day of school is always an exciting one but this one was made even more special as More than 20 soldiers from Fort Story helped make the day run a little smoother for both students and staff. The soldiers are from the 11th Transportation Battalion helped teachers and students for the entire week. The school has been partnering with Fort Story for more than 15 years and according to Lee Capwell, Principal at John B. Dey Elementary,
“It has been a great partnership that we have with Fort Story and continually we can rely on the soldiers to come through for us during the beginning of the year and it’s just wonderful.”
The 11th Transportation Battalion, commanded by Lt. Col. Karl Linderman, consists of over 850 Soldiers who practice 27 different military occupational specialties in Seaport Operations Companies, an Inland Cargo Transfer Company, a Headquarters Detachment, a Harbormaster Detachment, and an Automated Cargo Documentation Detachment in support of the 7th Sustainment Brigade.
