Pulling these from my wheelchair friendly box was very rewarding, i have to say. And then shot with a new purchase and pocket friendly 85mm 1.4 by Samyang. Manual and wide open
Growing beetroot is very easy. There are a lot of it in the garden. Me, I prefer them in the salads, so I thought I'd preserve some.

A new one to me, but I'm glad I discovered it, but not yet eaten. Matches the mood of Autumn quite nicely.

I've recently been making an effort to buy my veg from the market rather than the supermarket - can't get over how much more attractive it is! Just look at the leaves and stems on this beetroot :)
I let my beetroot go to seed and then have to pleasure to watch the new plants roam around their corner - first up through the winter. There are plenty of recipes for the leaves, but they add so much colour and form between the Livèche, Sarriette, Lemon balm and bay.

Still life image of Beetroot, using light painting. I think that still life is one of the most creative photographic genres - Why?
Because you, the photographer, are in control from the start to the finish...You decide the lighting, composition and finish...It is your vision, your creativity...Some think that still life is easy, but it is not - there is much to consider. The composition of the shot is probably the hardest part and I find I spend a lot of time tweaking the composition just a touch over and over in order to get the look I am after. Then the lighting...Natural is great, but not too harsh, so a North facing window works best, and soft diffused light. Of course those days don't happen every day, so the photographer has to help nature with manmade diffusers - curtain nets, or the diffuser on the reflector. The time of day the shot is taken matters too...I find early in the morning, late afternoon (or in the evening for the light painting shots) work best. A tripod is a handy tool, as are tweazers to remove small unwanted elements, or a fine paintbrush to brush away dust spots...Still life is not an easy photographic genre...but it is one of the most creative and unique forms of art...In this image I used a tripod, the beetroot and bowl and a torch - diffused using a scarf wrapped around the front of the light...
Last nights crescent moon. drove around to find something interesting to compliment it and this old tree said it would oblige. camera wanted a 6th but there was no way I was handholding at that speed so we compromise with a 20th leaning on the car. came out a nice beetroot sky for my sins, no colour adjustment just the usually twiddling in RAW
that's Beans, Beetroot & Courgettes.
Totally unflattering shot of me, but those who know me will roll their eyes upwards because they know what I am like sometimes.
I've had a great time at my little lottie this morning. These veg are grown by yours truly and I'm feeling smug....and a little bit batty.
First time trying this combination and was just perfect. Getting so much inspiration and ideas from the wonderful restaurants here.
Substrate: Watercolour paper 180gsm
Light sensitive anthotype dye: Grated beeroot juice
Application: dabbing with grated beetroot ball in a synthetic cloth
Opaque layer: conifer
Exposure time: 5 days intermittent sunlight (weather has been terrible - only one full day of sunlight)
Contrast was low so I had to work on this in photoshop.
