Macro Mondays 15/10/18 theme B-Food

It was rain this day, so I took a photo of a still life.

天気が悪いのでビートでも。

Maria allowed it to change my photo!!

Beetroot growing in container in our greenhouse.

For Macro Mondays - Food That begins With B

Happy Macro Monday!

Testing a series of beetroot recipes, I love the colours and earthy smell of beetroot combined with its sweet taste but have still to find a range of "go-to" recipes:-( The search starts here!

Macro Mondays theme Vegetable

A cross section of a small beetroot bulb backlit with torch.

Being of Eastern European heritage this was a no brainer. Raw Beetroots undoubtedly are the most beautiful and striking in colour of all vegetables.

This was one of the smaller bulbs I could find. The overall max width of frame here is 6cm.

Happy Macro Monday! 😊

I just had to try and to my surprise I liked it. Next week turmeric latte!

This little jumping spider was checking out the beetroot leaves! Happy Arachtober

King Brian II is looking very regal - he came to the throne at a very young age, owing to the untimely demise of his parents at the beak of a crow. Actually, I suppose it could be Queen Brian as snails are hermaphrodites.

For Macro Mondays theme 'Vegetable'. Brian is perched proudly on the tip of a leaf from one of my beetroot plants that is struggling to survive the colder weather in my greenhouse.

No snails were harmed in the making of this photograph.

Macro Mondays 'dried' theme.

Pretty beetroot bow-tie pasta. I can never resist buying pasta in different shapes and colours - I now have a large selection taking up space in two of my kitchen cupboards. Luckily some does get eaten!

The image measures 2.75" in width

A whole new series.

The beetroot is the taproot portion of a beet plant, usually known in North America as beets while the vegetable is referred to as beetroot in British English, and also known as the table beet, garden beet, red beet, dinner beet or golden beet.

beetroot and dill pickle

From the Middle Ages, beetroot was used as a treatment for a variety of conditions, especially illnesses relating to digestion and the blood.

There were so many options for the theme of 'B-Food' this week, but I settled for beetroot - one of my absolute favourites. Just as well it has such a striking colour. I made a delicious coleslaw from this, well my version anyway.

always appreciated faves invites and comments thanks

Looking like striated muscle tissue....

Substrate: Watercolour paper 180gsm

Light sensitive anthotype dye: Grated beeroot juice

Application: dabbing with grated beetroot ball in a synthetic cloth

Opaque layer: conifer, beetroot leaf, fishbone fern frond, eukalyptus leaves

Exposure time: 7 days intermittent sunlight (two full day of sunlight)

Contrast was low so I had to work on this in photoshop.

Some training for World Anthotype Day (3rd Saturday in August).

Pickled Beetroots "atomized" with a hand mixer, dye extracted with a 50/50 solution of 96% ethanol and H2O and finally strained through a cotton cloth.

Glossy inkjet paper coated x 2 with the emulsion (drying in between).

Wine leafs.

Cooked for 7h in full July Nordic sunshine today.

Quick rinse in water and hanged to dry before scanning.

Slow and low contrast alternative photographic process.

I recommend Malin Fabbri's book "Anthotypes" if you want to learn more about this.
