I took these next shots this afternoon in San Leandro on my way home from a meeting. It's on MacArthur Blvd. near the 580 Fwy. It was quite a fun surprise since I thought I kew most of the classic neon signs in the area.

Subject: Colourful food
This may not be the most colourful meal or be the ultimate burger, but after coming up with the idea, I just had to give it a go. Now burger oficiandos may tell me I have things in the wrong order or I'm missing some vital ingredients, but hey each to their own.
So, in my supper tonight, from the bottom up, we've got the toasted bun, lettuce, tomato, 100% Aberdeen Angus beefburger, onion rings, mayonnaise and topped off with the other half of the toasted bun. Yum..
I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone else is eating this week.
Any comments, suggestions or critique are welcomed
A view looking towards the sign over the entrance to Top Notch Beefburgers, which has been open at this location since the 1940s. I was intrigued and went there for lunch...very good food and a very fun atmosphere! Also appears to be a huge favorite with the local CPD...I think there were at least 10 cops dining when I was there :-)

Alfonso's Café has recently added a few items to its Menu .
One of the added items was "Beefburger and Chips" . This was it , the Roll looked a bit flattened , but the Burger itself had an excellent taste . It came with a Cheese Slice , lettuce and a tomato slice . The accompanying portion of chips was adequate too , fried crispy and not too Greasy or oily .

My drinks cupboard was beginning to look bare prior to Christmas. Well it would have been totally bare if it hadn't contained some 15 empty bottles of various single malt whiskies. It was great if any friends wanted a sniff but not much else and although they should all have gone in the bin I couldn't quite come to terms with robbing myself the opportunity for one more reminder of their aroma.
But on Christmas Day I came up trumps. In weeks running up to today I had made sure to be unenthusiastic about the whole Xmas thing and negative in the extreme when asked what I would like in my stocking. This appears to have had the desired effect and so many resorted to buying me alcohol.
I do like my 'local' whiskies, those from the north eastern corner of Scotland, and someone spoilt me with a 21 year Old Pulteney, 46% proof and apparently awarded "World Whisky of the Year 2012" by Jim Murray (not sure who he is but it's not the Jim Murray, my cousin).
Also peeping out of my (large stocking) was another favourite, a bottle of Highland Park, a regular favourite. The remaining contents of my stocking were:
1) A check shirt (self portrait to follow) : )
2) Five pairs "food" socks (decorated with beefburgers, bananas, pineapples, and a serving of bacon, egg, sausage and beans) : )
3) A bee hotel : )
4) A boxed set of Historic Ales from Scotland ; )
5) A letter opener from my mother (an un-subtle hint to write to her) : (
6) A bottle of Chateau Neuf-du-Pape (2011) red wine ; )
7) Hugo Boss Bottle Night..eau de toilette ....pour Homme : )
8) A boxed set of Lymestone Brewery beer : )
9) A bottle of Rioja Spanish wine (2008) from Aldi : )
10) A bottle of Norrebro Bryghus, Forars Bock , Okologisk strong Danish beer....sent from Finland : )
11) 5 tubes of Hanko mustard (from the most southerly town in Finland) : ))
12) 3 handkerchiefs with a fish design on them : /
13) A larger dressing gown : /
14) A "The Hairy Dieters" dieting book (an un-subtle hint from mother to shed some pounds) : (
15) Some Air France Fazer Wiener Nougat (which re-assuringly says it does not contain pork) : )
16) A sneaky lens attachment for taking photos at 90 degrees away from where you are pointing the lens : 0
17) A weekend away with the wife.(she's booked us) ; )
18) A pair of boots : )
19) A 3 CD disc set of American Anthems, All Time Classics ; )
20) A tin of someone else's holiday memories in Mauritius. A can of Mauritian Phoenix beer : )
21) A Christmas Panpipes CD :0

Fraunces Tavern is a landmark museum and restaurant in New York City, situated at 54 Pearl Street at the corner of Broad Street.
The location played a prominent role in history before, during and after the American Revolution, serving as a headquarters for George Washington,
a venue for peace negotiations with the British, and housing federal offices in the Early Republic.
America's most famous cannibal.
Alferd Griner Packer (January 21, 1842 – April 23, 1907) was an American prospector who confessed to cannibalism during the winter of 1874. He and five other men attempted to travel through the high mountains of Colorado during the peak of a harsh winter. When only Alferd reached civilization, he claimed that the others had killed each other for food, and confessed to having lived off the flesh of his companions during his snowbound state and to having used it to survive his trek out of the mountains two months later. After his story was called into question, he hid from justice for nine years before being tried, convicted of murder, and sentenced to death. Packer won a retrial and was eventually sentenced to 40 years in prison for manslaughter.
In 1968, students at the University of Colorado Boulder named their new cafeteria grill the "Alferd G. Packer Memorial Grill", with the slogan, "Have a friend for lunch!" Students can order an "El Canibal" beefburger, and on the wall is a giant map outlining Packer's travels through Colorado.
Yesterday after checking out the gorgeous Flower Festival in the Meatpacking District, we visited Hector’s Cafe & Diner on Little West 12th Street tucked directly underneath the High Line. This old-school diner has been in business since 1949 & still serves hamburgers 🍔made with beef from Weichsel Beef Conpany, one of the last Meatpacking holdouts in the neighborhood. We wanted to help support this old-school spot and ordered two delicious Jumbo Beefburger Deluxes with fries 🍔 ( swipe left for 2nd photo).
The diner was once open 24 hours a day, serving in the early early morning not only the butchers working in the area but club goers and tourists staying at the nearby Standard High Line Hotel (swipe left for 3rd photo of interior of diner).
