Best Viewed Large on Black -- Playing around in Lightroom. I believe this is a Male Carpenter Bee.
I really like the detail and sharpness on the Bee but he exposure/lighting were a little off for this photo. I think the sun went behind the clouds when I snapped this and I can't seem to brighten it up without blowing the highlights. So I went with another "Summer Haze/Early Evening" Theme.

A bee making the most of the wild flowers. I forgot how good for macro the Olympus E-620 body is. The colour representation and detail is as good as any. I used it as a second body today as the E-5 stay clamped to my 50-500mm mostly.
7/9/13. On my list today was to deadhead one of our lavender bushes. While I snipped away, the bees sipped away. After I was done, I fetched my camera and shot a few dozen shots. Got a couple of good ones.

I find that doing 365 photos I must keep pushing my self and my camera. This photo has two unique things . First it was hand held no tripod and second the sun was high over head so nun of those defining shadows we look for in early morning and late afternoon. I like this one and hope you do to.

Mining bees, or digger bees, (familys Andrenidae & Anthophoridae)
a bee shot with vintage tamron adaptall 105mm f/2.5 lens on 2 sets of extension tubes mounted on 5DII & lit with 580exII flash (mounted to side with diffusor ETTL +2 power). ISO100 F/32 & 1/160 ish shutter speed.
