It was feasting on the Thyme Blossoms in my herb garden.

- probably Nomada Ruficornis.

In my garden, they are hanging around the nests of Andrena Haemorrhoa. Nomada Ruficornis lays its eggs in the nests of Andrena Haemorrhoa, and the cuckoo bee larvae eat the larvae of the host bee.

I have a dim and distant memory of an episode of Doctor Who (unless I made it up), where Patrick Troughton (or Jon Pertwee or Tom Baker) faced up to a giant bee. (Or was it in The Goodies?)

This sculpture, seen here with Mrs. T at the Eden Project in Cornwall brought it all back.
