These beans were uncovered by an anthropologist, who discovered a 1,500 year old tightly sealed jar of the beans at a dig in New Mexico in the early 1900's. Some of the beans germinated, and the new variety of bean entered cultivation again. It is a large industry in SW Colorado. I have grown them and they seem to thrive on neglect and dry right on the vine when ready to harvest. They are very nutritious and tasty.

Foot-long string-bean-like seed pods hang from a tree in the cold evening air last night. Anyone know what kind of a tree this is?

Cloud Gate is a public sculpture by Indian-born British artist Anish Kapoor, that is the centerpiece of Grainger Plaza at Millennium Park in the Loop community area of Chicago. Constructed between 2004 and 2006, the sculpture is nicknamed "The Bean" because of its shape, a name Kapoor later grew fond of.

This head item is getting converted into part of Crush's Sheriff Weinerdog costume, but it seemed important to have Bailey try it on first. Right? Crucial.

I remember seeing my first Bean Geese in Northumberland back in the 1980s and thinking they looked similar to Pink-footed Geese, but with orange legs and dark bills with a bit of orange. But when I saw the flock of wintering Bean Geese in the Yare Valley in Norfolk they looked like a completely different species; They were larger with elongated largely orange bills and slender necks. Well the IOC (International Ornithological Congress) has officially split Bean Goose into two species; Taiga Bean Goose (Anser fabalis) and Tundra Bean Goose (Anser serrirostris). And the BOU (British Ornithologists' Union) follows suit on the official British List. So my early perception of two different species proved to be right.

About 300 Taiga Bean Geese regularly winter in just two areas in Britain; the Yare Valley in Norfolk and the Slammanan Plateau near Falkirk. They are pretty rare away from these areas. The Tundra Bean Goose winters throughout Britain but mainly in the south and east, and generally in small numbers, usually among flocks of other geese.

Taiga Bean Geese have three subspecies that breed across the wooded taiga zone of Europe and Asia (fabalis in Scandinavia, johanseni Urals to Lake Baikal, and middendorffii east of Lake Baikal). Tundra Bean Goose breeds further north and further to the east across a similar area and has two subspecies (rossicus in west Siberia and serrirostris in east Siberia). In Europe, the majority of Taiga Bean Geese winter in the Low Countries, with just the two regular sites in Britain. Tundra Bean Geese (subspecies rossicus) have a much more scattered wintering range in Europe, including Iberia, France, Italy, the Balkans, and also the Low Countries and Germany.

I photographed this individual Tundra Bean Goose in West Yorkshire's Aire Valley where it is hanging around with a small flock of Pink-footed Geese. Both species of Bean Geese are generally the rarest of Britain's overwintering geese totaling just a few hundred between them, compared to many thousands of the other species. This shot shows that this one is unringed and full-winged, reducing doubt about its origins that often hangs over our rarer wildfowl. I have other more standard shots of it that I may upload soon.

While out gathering green beans for tonight's vegetable soup, Joyce spotted this young iguana perched on top of one of the stalks. His right hind leg rests on a bean.

The bright red tongue contrasting on the green head reminded us of watermelon.

Mr. Bean came on the scene in the 1990s and quickly became a world wide phenomenon, his popularity due to the reliance on visual slapstick.

There are those that like or hate the character portrayed by British comic Rowan Atkinson. In my case, I don't mind him at all, but I much prefer Atkinson's other series Blackadder, which I consider one of the best comic series ever, and The Thin Blue Line. I also loved the Johnny English movies, Atkinson's take on a bumbling James Bond wannabe spy.

We're Here looks at Beans today, in this case Mr. Bean.

Green beans... they taste incredibly delicious, are packed with valuable B vitamins, and are so easy to prepare. Locally grown, they're available from the end of June to November – maybe you even have some growing in your vegetable garden. When buying them, make sure they're a vibrant green and have no brown spots. 😎

Most people that did not grow up in The Southeastern United States have never heard of or seen October beans. Many people from the southeast have never heard of them either. When the shelled beans are cooked, they turn into a light brown color. The flavor is similar to a pinto bean but less intense and a bit sweeter.

I love runner beans freshly picked from the gardens steamed and drizzled with butter.

This year we had trouble getting the beans to germinate and lockdown meant we couldn.t get fresh seeds. So the small helping we have had are extra special

Beans, Beans, the musical fruit.

The more you eat, the more you toot. The more you toot, the better you feel and now you're ready for another meal! I remember hearing that when I was a kid! These beans are in my basement pantry.
