This photo is a composite of 30 raw files. The lighting was two LED puck lights. I used a 10mm extension tube. The width of the bean group is approximately 1 inch in length.
Most morning, Beans who likes to be out at night, returns from his prowling and serenades me from the top of the parasol which is under my bedroom window until I get up and feed him.
The Nebraska, Kansas, & Colorado afternoon crew switches the Trinidad Benham food grade bean facility in Imperial, Nebraska. They would pull this cut of six cars to set a single load to the main. Western Nebraska grows a greater variety of crops such as edible beans, sugar beets, sunflowers, and popcorn which gives railfans more opportunities to see smaller facilities like this supplying single car shipments to railroads.
Today it was very hot outside, not a single cloud in the sky. Nothing to shoot. Me and my son went and bought some coffee and I decided to make some macro shots of the beans. This shot in particular done with 18-55 lens and 3 extension tubes. Only natural light and a long exposure.
I'm not really a fan of baked beans and this tin had been in the cupborard for a while so thought it had to be used for
117 in 2017#92 full of beans.
When I tried to open it the ring broke off so I had to use a tin opener. It didn't work on the top as the rim is too high for my tinopener. Tha'ts why it is upside down.. The beans ended up in a chili-con-carne which was very nice.
Cloud Gate as it is formally known, has been in Millennium Park in Chicago since 2004. It attracts huge crowds all the time and I never miss a chance to photograph it. It measures 33 by 66 by 42 feet, and weighs about 100 tons.
I shot this macro by climbing up onto a field wagon filled with soy beans. This is part of the harvest series for the fall of 2009, a year farmers won't soon forget.

I've always liked these beautiful plants. They are really common in south Texas. This one caught my eye as I was wandering through a small bird sanctuary area.

A pair of GP40-3s shove a pair of oldschool 50' boxcars loaded with beans down the spur to Crowley Liner Services past the CSX scale operations spur. Crowley is one of only four customers left out of Export yard; when I first started documenting industries around here more than ten years ago now, there were seven active customers, with an eight and ninth that received brief temporary service at different times. I believe Crowley transloads what are mainly shipments of beans, but probably some other goods as well, from boxcars to containers on this track, which are then loaded onto a barge likely going to Puerto Rico (the second part of that is just an educated guess). They get cars here rather regularly, typically once or twice a week, sometimes less, sometimes more. I almost exclusively see high cubes however, so catching a pair of standard height cars was very nice. The extra unit also made for a nice touch; MP15s and even regular GP38s and 40s nowhere to be found around Jax these days.
The scale track used to see equipment move in and out here and there, this bunch however looks to have been sitting here for years at this point. Knowing nothing about scale cars, I did find the B&O car with handbrake on the top quite neat. Export yard, Jacksonville, FL.
