On a rainy day with people taking shelter under the Bean, it served as a mirror and a refuge.

Kwati is a traditional Nepalese dish which is a thick stew of several kinds of beans. It is high in protein so it is considered good to be given to sick people to gain strength. Kwati is normally a mix of 9 beans namely, black eye peas, cow peas, black lentils, chickpeas, adzuki, soybeans, mung dal, green peas and favas. ......

Not only does this plant provide tasty healthy food but beautiful leaves too. Bonus!

Many thanks for your faves and comments, they're much appreciated :)

Weather is bad these days so I can't be bothered going out on photo adventures. Wanting to do at least some camera related stuff I decided to try some macro with the all-important household item: Coffee!

I placed the coffee beans on a black surface although the surface doesn't really matter here because I used two layers of beans to cover the surface completely. I placed the flash next to the beans, at an angle, pointing towards a whiteish surface to try and diffuse the light as much as possible. Manual mode, ISO 320, 1/250s | f8 or 1/200s | f13.

A morning without coffee is like sleep!

Just after Sunrise in the soybean fields. The foliage is starting to turn filling the fields with Autumn Color. Thanks for the look and have a great week ahead.

I know, I know - I‘ve been uploading like a maniac. But that‘s just because… well, I‘m a maniac, I guess. Hope it doesn‘t mean quantity over quality for the most part. I‘m using quite a few of these different lenses for upcoming articles as well. So it looks like I‘ll be busy for a while!

The dawn just sort of exploded in the soybean field. Thanks for the visit and have a grand weekend.

Adding to the b&w Chicago shot I posted yesterday, here is another one - this time daytime, shot under The Bean.

Inhabits the tundra, lasotundra and taiga of Eurasia. It winters spotted in a belt from western Europe to Japan, but can also recently be observed in winter in Poland, as flocks of dozens move from feeding grounds to nesting sites several times a day. Unfortunately, the feeding grounds are fields with emerging winter cereals.

The Bean Goose is browner than the Greater White-fronted Goose, with a darker head and neck and back. The beak of the goose is paler and the legs are pinkish.

Find joy in the ordinary. The sunrise, a garden snail, fresh beans, a moment of silence. The seemingly ordinary things we encounter daily, if you slow down and examine them are really quite extraordinary in themselves. What ordinary things are you finding joy in today?

PS I bought these fava beans at my local farm, Petersen's Farm Market.

Ok, it was only one bean, but I had to laugh because Pancakes and Beans doesn't sound very appetizing.

Have had a few broad beans from two planting areas in the backyard. This is what was picked just now.

▶ "Apios americana — commonly known as American groundnut or potato bean— is a native perennial vine in the legume family (Fabaceae). It is native to North America from southeastern Canada south through Florida, west to Colorado. It grows in tidal and non-tidal marshes and wet thickets, on stream banks, and in bottomland forests.

The vine can grow 8-16 feet long. The flowers are usually pink, purple, or red-brown, and are produced in dense racemes [short floral stalks] 3-5 inches in length (7.5–13 cm). The plant's fruit, seeds, and large tubers are all edible."

Macro Mondays: "Seeds"

A bowl of mixed beans for a bean soup. Lit with a single constant LED. The soup was good!

The image is about 7.5 cm (3 inches) on the long edge.

Last year Shirley created a small living roof above the storage shed for our LPG tanks. It really has thrived and produced a welcome splash of colour in that particular corner of the garden. It has also attracted a number of Black Bean Aphids, commonly known as Blackfly. They are minuscule and measure no more than 2mm but can appear in large numbers. Their effect on plants can cause them to wither and saps their growing power. This is a shot of one of them in which in which I have probably pushed the macro to its limit.

A little bit of online research revealed that a small amount of washing up liquid within a water dilute should help deter them and that has thankfully proved the case. I know ladybirds are better but at the moment we don't seem to have any in the garden.

These are beans from Compass Coffee, a roaster here in Vancouver, Washington and their Delirium blend. It was roasted a few days ago. For my moka pot coffee recipe:

an abundance of seed pods this year which means more seeds to plant next year and to share!!

In a cozy little coffee shop nestled on a bustling street, there were three coffee dallahs that sat proudly on the counter. Each morning, they were filled with the finest coffee and served eager customers, but they had a secret—they could talk.

The first dallah, tall and slender, was named Darla. Darla was a bit of a diva and loved to brag about how she brewed the best coffee. The second, short and stout, was called Dave. Dave was the comedian of the group, always cracking jokes. The third, a medium-sized dallah with intricate designs, was named Dotty. Dotty was sweet and loved to keep the peace between her two friends.

One morning, as the sun peeked through the window and the first customers trickled in, Darla began her usual boasting. "I make the richest, most aromatic coffee in town," she declared, steam puffing out proudly.

Dave rolled his spout. "Oh, Darla, the only thing richer than your coffee is your imagination!"

Dotty giggled, trying to keep the peace. "Come on, you two. We all know we make a great team."

But Darla was on a roll. "My coffee has won awards, I'll have you know!"

"Yeah, the award for most overcooked beans!" Dave quipped, making Dotty chuckle.

Just then, a barista came over and poured fresh coffee into each of them. As the barista walked away, Darla started to sputter. "What's happening? I feel... I feel... weak!"

Dave and Dotty looked at each other, concerned. "Are you okay, Darla?" Dotty asked.

Dave tried to lighten the mood. "Looks like someone finally noticed your over-inflated ego and gave you decaf!"

Darla gasped. "Decaf? Oh, the horror!"

The three dallahs were interrupted by the barista, who returned with a fresh bag of coffee beans. "Sorry about that, Darla. I accidentally gave you decaf. Here, let me fix that."

As the barista refilled Darla with the strongest coffee they had, Darla sighed in relief. "Thank goodness! I thought I'd lost my touch."

Dave couldn't resist. "Well, Darla, you might still lose your touch, but at least now you'll lose it with dignity."

Dotty chimed in with a smile, "Let's just be grateful we're all full of beans—literally!"

And so, the three coffee dallahs continued their morning routine, filled with laughter, friendly banter, and, of course, the best coffee in town.

A variety of beans after being soaked in water.

For Macro Mondays "5letters" challenge. From a package of dried beans for "14 Bean Soup"

I am making Fifteen Bean soup tomorrow, so tonight I had to soak the beans. They were so pretty, I just had to get my camera out!

The blue bits are from an LED light I had coming in from one side. I couldn't get the blue out without messing with it for too long, so I left it in.
