Chesil Beach is 18 miles (28 kilometres) long and, on average, 160 metres wide and rises to 12 metres in height. It is a pebble and shingle tombolo connecting Portland to Abbotsbury and then continuing north-westwards to West Bay near Bridport. It is the largest tombolo in the UK.

A solitary stone washed clean by the waves on a lonely beach close to our city. Tomorrow our little country plays a game of cricket against the nation who invented it, in a ground called the home of cricket with a home crowd advantage. But cricket can be a surprising game. I hope.

Another afternoon of beach fun , playing with driftwood and pebbles. The wood that I find washed up under the cliffs dictates what I can do. Some pieces are too good not to use so they become the basis for what evolves. demons Dance Alone is by the Residents. Sadly it's been nearly a year of dancing alone this year.

I found out about Iona beach at Emily Carr Universities Granville Island campus after seeing some great prints by a photographer named Hideaki in the darkroom. Hideaki used a older Hasselblad and Ilford delta 120 film, it took him over an hour to develop his film and up to 8 hours to meticulously make RC proof prints and a few fiber prints.

The white color on the edge of the beach is snow.

The piles of seaweed are a sign of a healthy kelp forest offshore here in this remote part of the central California coast. Jalama Beach County Park near Santa Barbara.

I found these flowers (probably coltsfoot) when I walked along the "beach" area at a local lake on Saturday morning. Most people would probably say that this is weed but I prefer to call them wildflowers. I admire that they not only survive on rocks and sand but even flower so beautifully.

It wasn't cold enough to keep me inside. I bundled up and sat on the porch watching the infrequent lone beach walker with companion dog along for company. I love the beach in the winter time; deserted, untouched by footprints, and unobstructed views.

Beaches of the Central Coast #23 of #49

Thanks for your visit and to everyone who takes the time to comment. They are all greatly appreciated.

A mate & I vowed to explore all 49 beaches nestled along our little stretch of coastline this year. While I've tested the water at a fair wack of them over the years, I'm sure there are still some hidden gems awaiting discovery. So, 2024 is a fresh start to visiting them all. And maybe another couple of dozen or so just to the North ;) I have a spreadsheet ready to go to record important details, like when, how hard it was to get to, difficulty, and was there a pub nearby for a nice counter lunch afterwards ;)

I may have become a bit impatient today and headed off by myself. I was caught between workouts and the sky was filling with some nice-looking clouds, so I seized the opportunity to explore Forresters Beach, a virgin beach for me. And only 20 minutes from home! I was expecting a "busy" beach but was pleasantly surprised by its tranquility and relative emptiness. It is an unpatrolled beach with rocky formations framing each end. I opted for the southern end. As luck would have it, it was low tide, giving me some cool rock shelves to wander around clicking the shutter like my finger had a mind of its own.

As I walked along, I encountered some exciting (to me anyway) sights. I'll try and make it sound more exciting ;) - a tapestry of seaweed sprawled across the sands, clusters of vibrant blue bottles offering me their sting, and pockets of dune flowers adding a pop of color to the coastal landscape. Forresters Beach, I'll be back! The northern end awaits, as does a sunrise. Without a 1-hour time limit.

PS - Not going to visit them in order, that would be a bit too organised for me ;)

Bandon Beach is on the sourthern Oregon Coast. I remember my mother took us here to sit on the cliffs to watch for the tsunami from the Alaska earthquake. Thankfully, it never came!

Margate, north of Brisbane. Hardly a soul on the beach, but once the weekend arrives, it might be a different story.
