Palm Trees lord over Luquillo Beach in Puerto Rico

Sunrise ...the first light hit the coast.

The last time I'd visited Diamond Beach near the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon in 2019 I came away feeling particularly despondent after failing to make the most of my visit. The weather conditions hadn't been favourable with heavy rain falling so I had retreated to the warmth of the campervan. It was only when I'd returned home that I realised how foolish I had been not making the most of that visit.

This time around I was determined not to make the same mistake!

Once you get onto the black sand and witness these large chunks of ice washing up along the shoreline you realise it's a magical place. The conditions were flat with drizzle in the air but thankfully light pockets of light were creeping through the clouds.

If you're lucky enough to catch the light the ice shines and diamond beach comes alive.

A shot from one of my favourite beach days, when squally showers fly across the scene, sending people dashing from the beach and scooting back to their cars. I can always find somewhere to shelter and wait for the wonderful light that normally results . In Hell I'll Be In Good Company is by The Dead South.

The Diamond beach is by Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon in southeast Iceland.

The lagoon belongs to the Vatnajökull glacier national park. The glacier's name is Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, and huge blocks of ice (more than 1000-year-old) are continually breaking from it and large chunks of iceberg float in the lagoon.

C'mon Dad, let's get on the beach! Effie leads the way over the dunes to glorious Sanna beach. Where it was soo crowded. I spotted about 25 people along its length. Horrendous over crowding for Ardnamurchan

A forest which was buried under water and sand more than 4,500 years ago can be seen on Borth beach in Ceredigion, Cymru/Wales.

The remains of the forests trees, preserved in the local peat, have been exposed by low tides and high winds.

Known as the Sunken Forest or Sunken Kingdom, this graveyard of trees – pine, alder, oak and birch – has been preserved since 1500 BC and surfaced at various points in history, in folktales, songs and legends from the 17th century, that widely identify it with Cantre'r Gwaelod (The Lowland Hundred), an ancient civilization described as a ‘Welsh Atlantis’.

Never trust a big fish in a small pond for your spiritual answers. We are all big fish in small ponds. No one has THE ANSWER.

Nothing better for the soul than a walk on the beach.

Mordialloc Beach, Vic

After my last gloomy, grey-waters post, I thought it was time to brighten things up with a sunny beach scene. Not that it’s remotely sunny here today — it’s dark, damp, and raining. Again. We’re now entering what feels like Week 47 of “scattered showers and soggy socks.”

This morning’s quick walk with Jazzy felt more like an aquatic expedition. The park was full of puddles, and I decided each deserved a name — because clearly, they all have personalities. Jazzy just sees them as splash zones and portable mud dispensers for the back seat of my car.

The standout was a noble puddle I knighted Sir Splash-a-Lot. A suspiciously deep one became the Puddle of Eternal Mystery, possibly bottomless, may have contained lost tennis balls from the adjoining tennis courts. I gave wide berth to The Abyss of Wet Shoes and paused to pay respects to Mirror to Another World, which reflected the gloomy sky perfectly.

Anyway, here’s a cheerful photo to dry out your eyeballs. Happy overmorrow from the weekend!

Thanks for any likes or comments, they are always appreciated!
