Although not an ideal beach for sandcastles Lynmouth;s beach is popular with anglers and also, occasionally, surfers. the wooden structures here are called groynes which are designed to prevent beaches from being washed away by coastal erosion.
Saturday we took our pups to Dog Beach near Honokohau Harbor. We all had a good time. Mera loves the water but Arthur was a bit less enthusiastic. It was his first time near the ocean.
"The place where summer happens in Rio, Ipanema Beach is famous as the best biking beach of the world. It is the same beach where the famous song "The Girl from Ipanema" was written by Antonio Carlos Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes. Posto 9, Garcia, Country, Teixeira, Farme Gay, and Cap Ferrat are several favorite spots of Ipanema Beach."

I spend my weekend at the coast. The weekend included some swimming and water skiing in the ocean! Some photos will follow as soon as Anssi gets home and loads the photos to his computer. We used the combination of EOS 7D and 70-200mm f/2.8L IS at the boat in order to achieve full weather sealing (for the 5D Mark II is not weather sealed). The weather sealing was indeed needed for it was a bit windy and we were cruising fast (so my lens is covered with salt now :D). I succeeded to get up on the fourth attemp after splashing hard three times and swallowing large amounts of sea water! But the fun part began when I got up. It was super fun although I got some bruises and my arms are quite tender now. :P

Into the great wide open festival. This car left quite a poetic trail on the beach of the little dutch island Vlieland...

On Whitsunday Island.
We travelled there with Cruise Whitsundays.
The beach was named and discovered in 1879 by Staff Commander EP Bedwell. Being one of the many names from the then English county of Cumberland Bedwell brought to the area following James Cook's 1770 naming of the island group The Cumberland Islands.
Whitsunday Island is accessible by boat from Hamilton Island and the mainland tourist ports of Airlie Beach and Shute Harbour. It contains many popular destinations for both day visitors and overnight sailors, including the magnificent pure-white sands of Whitehaven Beach and Hill Inlet, the secure anchorage of Cid Harbour, and the sheltered waterway of Gulnare Inlet. The island has six campgrounds.
Named by Captain James Cook in early June 1770, the island (Whitsunday Island) covers 27,508 ha (275.08 km2) in area. Around the northern bays of the island are seagrass beds which support a diverse range of marine life.
The Whitsunday islands were once a mainland mountain range and became islands about 10 000 years ago when the
sea level rose at the end of the last ice age. They are part of Australia’s largest offshore island chain. The islands and
their surrounding waters are protected in the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area, Australia’s first World Heritage area and the largest ever established.
