"Hey, Sev!" Zephyr called as he stood at the edge of the tub, camera in paw. "Smile! You too, Khaleesi!"
A smile wasn't exactly what Zephyr got. More like confusion as to why his bath was being interrupted from his mate, and a shocked look on his daughter's face. Chuckling, Zephyr shrugged and went to go wake Khalypso for her bath, dressed in the swimming trunks that he always wore to bathe his daughters.
-----
Rest assured, small as she may be, waking Khalypso is like waking a dragon with a severe hangover. I feel sorry for Zephyr already.
Our daughter sitting in the bath with soapy hair - undecided on whether this image looks better in colour or black and white - please help.

With no running water and no sewers in the shacks of the Chácara do Caqui favela, the sanitary and hygienic conditions of all the families is more than precarious. Their only water supply is from some old polluted wells and a water tank filled weekly with fresh drinking water from the local waterworks company.
Each evening, almost ritually, big tin cans are filled with water and heated over the many fires lit inbetween the shacks, as this picture illustrates. This can be quite a dangerous procedure and a sure health hazard because the fires are usually made by burning old rubber tyres, often resulting in accidents, which at their worse can cost an entire home and put lives at risk, as did happen last week with the first few shacks in this picture, leaving the families homeless.
The lack of basic sanitary needs has also obvious negative consequences on the health and well-being of the children who live there, who are often sick and go to school dirty, quite often suffering prejudice from the other children because of this. We have noticed that this problem also contributes to a range of other difficulties facing these children, which affect their stability in our street migration prevention programme at the new community centre.
One would believe, a simple problem, with a simple solution.........., at least for most of us!
Nevertheless, not so simple to resolve due to the dwellings being an illegal occupation in a watershed zone, causing the authorities to reject any attempts of urbanization and instead leaving the families to suffer for thirteen years without any hopes of moving them to something better. For many, this is better than where they came from; under bridges, in prostitution or living on the rubbish tip.
It is in this kind of scenário that our organization has started procedures to install some toilets and bathrooms to help raise the self-esteem of these children and their families. We think this can be an important first step towards believing in a different future than what most of the inhabitants are able to visualize after so many years of suffering.
CARF has already started installation of the first bathroom, but we will need your help to complete this work and therefore invite you, our Flickr friends, to make this your alternative Christmas Present. You can contribute quite simply through our Flickr Changemaker Campaign Page. Any amount is valid and small amounts can make a big difference. Please mark contributions with “Bathrooms”. The more contribuants, the better, because then we know we will have managed to sensibilize many more of you in realizing our goal of USD$7.200,00 for this important initiative.
I will be thankful and the people will be most grateful, for sure!

Water Tower and bath tub at Hillbilly Hotdogs provides visitors one of many things to view and admire at the roadside hotdog shop outside of Huntingdon, Cabell County, WV. If you're in the area, this is a must eat at place! Be sure to look around and take in the much of the redneck and hillbilly humor.
